In the world of wine, rosé has it easy: If it’s pink and pretty, it’s already on its way to being well accepted. Rarely does a rosé jump out of the glass and demand attention. But this one seems to have packaged up a Mediterranean breeze along with the scents of strawberries and garrigue, unleashing it with every sip. My nine-year-old, doing her own independent appraising, said, "It smells warm-not like the wine is warm, but like it comes from a warm place." That place is inland from the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, 345 acres of stony soils and limestone terraces, a remote location Marcel Ott purchased in 1912. Today, cousins Christian and Jean-François Ott tend the vines, working with the backing of parent company Louis Roederer, which funded the building of a new winery at the estate in 2017, designed by Carl Fredrik Svenstedt. All those elements came together in a rosé that channels the place it’s grown in an elegant and understated way, yet with a persistence that speaks to its structure and strength. Impressive now, this will be even better with a year or two in bottle.

Brilliant peach skin color. A highly perfumed, mineral-accented bouquet evokes fresh red berries, pit fruits and kumquat. A sexy floral note emerges with air. Silky and penetrating on the palate, offering intense redcurrant, strawberry, nectarine and blood orange flavors that slowly deepen through the mid-palate. Delivers solid punch but comes off lithe, showing excellent clarity and floral notes on the impressively long, seamless finish. Drink 2020-2025. (JR)

Bringing out freshness as well as the richness of the Ott style, this wine is generous, full of red fruits while also having an attractive, lip-smacking mineral acidity. (RV)

The beauty of the Ott rosés is that they don't wallop you with confected aromas, remaining cool and elegant. The 2019 Cotes de Provence Rose Chateau de Selle—a blend of 56% Grenache, 25% Cinsault, 11% Syrah and 8% Mourvèdre—offers up scents of wet stones, grapefruit, lime and hints of wild strawberries. It's medium-bodied, with a fine line of acidity, a delicately silky texture and a lingering, refreshing finish. (JC)

It is not often that wine leave Cinnamon and I grasping for words, but this masterpiece of rosé certainly did. The Château De Selle was all too easy to drink, but very difficult to talk or write about. It has beautiful, subtle fruit- but which kind of fruit? I am at a loss. The finish is as fresh and deep as the mediterranean sea and has a salty twist to it, this is a wine that goes on and on. The only thing I can think to do is have another bottle. While this is very expensive rosé, I feel it was a value in fine wine. It rivals Cristal Champagne for refinement, grace and is a must for the jaded palates out there. What a treat!
