Wine Advocate
Reviewed April 2010The sole “late-harvested” Albert Mann wine of its vintage, their 2006 Riesling Altenbourg Vendange Tardive – with only 12% alcohol and more than 50 grams of residual sugar – was still picked before the end of September. This wine’s ripe, vanilla-tinged peach; its creaminess of texture; its subtle integration of citrus into an enveloping, rich, sweet matrix; and its saliva-inducing salinity all put me a bit in mind of a Marcobrunn Auslese from the Rheingau. A pure, refined, gloriously buoyant Riesling, it should, I suspect, keep well for at least 15 years, although – as a precaution – I would not lose any botrytis wine of its vintage in the cellar for more than a few years without checking in on a bottle. Wine Spectator
Open-knit, showing flavors of crushed pine needle and petrol, with a tangy mix of tangerine, apple pie and roasted nuts. It's all well-meshed with a lip-smacking, black licorice-tinged finish. (AN, Web-2009)

Vinous
Good straw-yellow. Very ripe aromas of pear, peach and coconut. Pure, racy and surprisingly backward, with a lively quality and brisk firming acidity to the flavors of candied mandarin orange peel, lime and peach. Finishes fresh and long, with very good penetration and juiciness for the vintage. There's something almost Mosel-like about this pure riesling. The Barthelmes did a "pre-picking" ten days prior to the actual harvest here, and the wine is much cleaner for it. (ST)
