Reviewed January 2020Even better than it seemed last year, Farge's 2017 Saint Joseph Blanc Vania is an 80-20 blend of Marsanne and Roussanne. Half is fermented in 400-liter barrels, with steamed staves to avoid any toasted notes. The result is that the wood just provides lift and structure, not any noticeable flavors. Beeswax and muskmelon appear on the nose and palate, which is medium to full-bodied, plump and silky, with a long finish. (JC)

A blend of 80% Marsanne and 20% Roussanne, the 2017 Saint Joseph Vania Blanc is light gold-colored and has an attractive bouquet of spiced citrus, peach blossom, sappy herbs, and honeyed minerality. Medium-bodied and lively on the palate, it's balanced and has plenty to love.
