Vinous

Reviewed January 2018
Deep vivid red. Lively, mineral-accented cherry, blackberry and potpourri scents show very good clarity and pick up cola and succulent herb nuances as the wine opens up. Sappy, well-concentrated dark berry and bitter cherry flavors are given spine by a core of juicy acidity. Densely packed but quite lively; finishes long and smooth, with subtle tannins lending grip. Ken Wright oversees production for Angela Estate, bringing his 30-plus years of Oregon experience to the task. This lovely bottle is smooth and supple, the fruit a mix of ripe raspberry, red plum and cherry jam, with a gentle touch of chocolate. (PG)

Light and pretty, with a sense of restraint to the cinnamon-accented raspberry and strawberry flavors, lingering delicately. Drink now through 2022. (HS)

Notes

The winery is a collaboration between owner, Anthony Beck of Graham Beck winery in South Africa and Ken Wright. Angela Estate is located in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA in the northwest corner of the Willamette Valley. It's 34-acres were planted in 2006 and continues to be managed by Wright and his team. The vineyard sits on ancient marine sedimentary soils that lend to blacker fruit, coarser tannin, and curvy mouthfeel to the wine wine. Aromas and flavors of blackberry, rose hips, cherry cola, hibiscus, plum skin, forest floor and white pepper spice.
