70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 5% Mourvèdre, 5% Cinsault. Vinified in concrete and aged in old wood. Tasted blind. Dark crimson. Intense, focused nose and lots of tannins. Rather cool finish. Lightly chewy on the end. Not opulent but well balanced. (JR)

While rich and full in body, this Grenache blend also has fresh acidity and notes of dusty mineral and dried Provençal herbs that lend complexity. Black-plum and cherry flavors are crisply concentrated on the palate and framed by fine, slightly bitter tannins that linger on the finish. (AI)

Certainly some of the greatest values in the beautiful Rhone Valley can be found in the "Villages" wines of Valreas, Seguret, Visan and Sablet, where the sun-ripened grapes carpet the slopes and valleys on both sides of the Rhone River. These wines are more restricted and as a result, are of overall higher quality than normal Cotes-du-Rhones. We're proud of the entire range of organic wines from Domaine de Verquiere, and the Sablet especially unveils an array of redolent charms in its concentrated plum, wild cherry and herbal flavors, supported by good acidity and the evidence of welcome grip on the tannins. One for the home chef to pair with a rich Cottage pie or Greek moussaka. Great value!

Notes

The Verquière estate has been passed down from father to son for many generations and is now managed by Thibaut Chamfort. Following age-old traditions and sustainable practices, the estate was recently certified organic. The Côtes-du-Rhône Villages Sablet is a blend of 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 15% Mourvedre and 5% Cinsault grown on three different terroirs. The first being the chalky clay soils with loads of large pebbles from the lower part of the appellation, limestone and marl from the highest part and the classic sandy soils of Sablet right around the village and estate. Verquière recently returned to us after a long hiatus and we are pleased to have them back.
