The exuberant 2016 Cotes du Rhone Premiere Cote is a blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre, aged predominantly in tank. Hints of garrigue and truffles accent ripe berries, while the medium-bodied palate is silky in texture and finishes long and savory. It's a dynamite wine for drinking over the next several years. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. (JC)

Classic red fruit and rich spices with juicy structure and lovely fruit persistence. Impressive - especially for the price! 16/20 points. (RH)

Where to begin with Stephane Vedeau's wines? From top to bottom, they offer great character and quality that is each indicative of their terroir. The basic Premier Cote is a great place to start. Coming from the younger vines on this site, the wine is loaded with so much fresh red berry fruit. Opening with raspberries and strawberries the wine moves into bright floral tones on the palate. This is a wildly fruited and engaging style. You'll taste it and be back for more in no time.

So a man walked into the store and said "Gimme something I can drink and enjoy for under fifteen bucks!" Red, white or rose? "Red....something good though." A fellow of obvious taste and distinction, I head him over to the Rhone/French Regional section, and say "You can't do better than this $11.99 beauty, brimming with bright, buoyant red fruit, a potpourri of spice, loam and wild herbs, culminating in a luscious, satiny finish." He responded, "But is it good?" Some people.... end of story, he bought two bottles. And it was good.

Notes

La Ferme du Mont is the passion project of Stephane Vedeau who cultivates some 50 hectares of grapes in various spots throughout the southern Rhone. All vines are cultivated without the use of pesticides and chemicals. Each site is meant to be the truest reflection of the terroir and the grapes they produce. The Premiere Cote comes from the village of Courthezon (one of the villages that is also part of the Chateuneuf appellation) from the heavy pebble ladened vineyards of the area. it is a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre that is all vinified separately in concrete tanks before the final assembly is done.
