Bright ruby. Aromas of spice-accented blackberry, licorice and dark chocolate on the nose, along with a hint of cracked pepper that adds spicy lift. Pliant cherry and dark berry flavors display a smooth, seamless quality and put on weight with air. Shows good clarity on a warm, broad finish framed by harmonious tannins. (JR)

This is a bright, juicy charmer, with lively acid and tons of personality--its energy is almost Richard Simmons level! On the nose there are notes of red berries that smell like they're fresh off the tree, leading to a sprightly, spicy palate and firm tannins. This would be lovely with sausages and cheese, or maybe even a gazpacho. What's even better is that winemaker Coralie Onde farms her estate organically and biodynamically. A super fun wine.

Notes

Coralie Onde was from a winemaking family but opted to start her own project independent of her family estate, Domaine les Ondines. In 2008, Coralie formed her new estate in Vacqueyras when she purchased some terrific old vine fruit and also taking a small holding when the family estate was split. With close to 9 hectares now, Coralie began the organic certification process and was officially certified in 2014 Her vines are aged from 15 to 55 years and the soils are primarily chalky-clay with some galet (river stones). The 2016 is about 70% Grenache with 30% Syrah and probably a touch of Cinsault in there since it is co-planted with the oldest Grenache vines.
