Saumur-Puy-Notre-Dame is a newer sub-appellation in the broader Saumur region. On the beautiful tuffeaux (limestone) bench with very poor top soil and at just a little higher elevation than the surrounding area, translates to classic cab-francy goodness. The Enchantoir has vibrant red fruit with notes of brushy herbs. There is bright acidity and a tart cherry tone that makes it sing with the pâtés and duck confit of the region. This is a wonderfully classic expression and makes a great daily drinker.

Domaine de l'Enchantoir is run by the Brunet family in the new sub-appellation of Saumur-Puy-Notre-Dame. Distinguished from the rest of Saumur, Puy-Notre-Dame plantings sit between 50-150 meters, relatively high by Loire standards. The winery has been certified organic since 2010. The "Le Pied" is 100% Cabernet Franc planted on the hard limestone known as tuffeaux with very little top soil. The wine is fermented using native yeasts in tank with no additions and a minimal amount of SO2 at bottling. This is classic and honest Cabernet Franc perfect for paring with roasted duck, charcuterie or smoked trout.
