Paillard's 2010 Extra-Brut Blanc de Noirs Les Maillerettes Grand Cru shows the greater power and overall resonance of Pinot Noir compared to the 2010 Blanc de Blancs Les Mottelettes, which naturally features Chardonnay. Mirabelle, dried flowers and mint all develop nicely in the glass. Here, too, my impression is that the 2010 is best enjoyed sooner rather than later. Dosage is 2.6 grams per liter. Disgorged: March 2016. (AG)

The 2010 Les Maillerettes Bouzy Grand Cru Blanc de Noirs Extra-Brut (disgorged in July 2015 with a dosage of 2.6 grams per liter) offers a picture-book flavor of Bouzy Pinot Noir: sweet cherries, great purity and elegant intensity. Full-bodied, round and fruity on the palate, but pure, fresh and precise, this is a superb Pinot with great elegance and length. Lovely salinity. Aged in 100% stainless steel. This is a fascinating Bouzy Champagne. (SR)

The 2010 Pierre Paillard "Les Maillerettes" Brut Blanc de Noirs is made from a mid-slope plot of pinot noir planted in 1970 to the family massal selection. They still propagate pinot noir from here for new vineyard plantations. After years of working with these wines, I was not surprised at the Corton like power and structure of this wine, but I was blown away by the effortless texture and fine bead of this bottle. I do not understand how they can get both elements in one little 750ml!

Notes

This powerful Pinot Noir Champagne comes from a less than 1/2 acre parcel in the grand cru of Bouzy planted in 1970 called Les Maillerettes. These old Pinot vines are the source for the massal selections used by the Paillard family for the rest of their plantations. This bottling, which will cellar for a very long time, also shows quite well right now. While I would not recommend this as a party bottle, graduates of Champagne will find one of the best expressions of real Pinot in this majestic wine. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne Buyer)
