Reviewed October 2014The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon, also seems superior to its 2012 counterpart. Black/purple, the wine show plenty of blackberry and cassis fruit, with more depth, ripeness and overall flavor dimension than its older sibling. This should turn out to be outstanding wine. (RP)

Made entirely from the ten acre Jax vineyard site in Calistoga, this is California Cabernet with precision. Owned by local residents the Jackson family, the wines are made by Kirk Venge, whose work with B Cellars and Bacio Divino has made him a star in the region. Because of the location of the vineyard, the Jax site only sees afternoon sun on most days, which allows for a slow-ripening process and fruit of supreme concentration. These wines have been undiscovered gems for insiders and those in-the-know, but with Parker's latest round of scores the secret is out.
