Notes
Sassicaia combines Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc from Tenuta San Guido’s Bolgheri vineyards. The sites span approximately 80 to 400 meters, with west and southwest exposures and a mix of limestone, marl, stones and clay. The wine first reached the market with the 1968 vintage. A mild, relatively dry winter brought budbreak about ten days early in 2007. Spring supplied water, while a dry September and marked differences between daytime and nighttime temperatures supported ripening. Fermentation took place in stainless steel with about two weeks of skin contact. Malolactic fermentation in steel and 24 months in French oak barriques followed.
