The original 'green' Champagne producer, organic since 1970 and biodynamic since 1989. I picked the Brut Sonate 2011 to include in my book, which is a little more expensive, but this blanc de noirs is also brilliant, rich and creamy but dancing with a salty minerality. (JA)

Beautiful florals with light and bright red fruit and brioche pastry. The palate has a crisp, silky feel with fine, red-fruit flavors. From organically grown grapes.

This balanced version is lightly mouthwatering and open-knit, an accessible Champagne with a fine range of crushed black raspberry, blood orange granita, toast and spice flavors. (AN, Web Only-2017)

This bottle has the best texture of any non-vintage wine in this price range, with perfect streamers and elegant creaminess. The brioche, custard and meyer lemon aromatics carry through on the palate, yet the finish is all about freshness. If you haven’t tried this in a while, you should. It is one of the most impressive wines they make, and a great flagship… This is not “entry level” stuff!

I was all ready a Fleury freak before I tasted the new BdN, but this just solidified what we already new. Fleury is a world class producer of Champagne and should recognized as one of the very best. A beautiful honeyed hue. A stupendous nose of bright candied cherries, honeysuckle, and zesty citrus. Very racy on the palate, ultra clean and precise. The style is so drinkable here, but I would love to see what would happen in the cellar for a few years. Stock up while you can.

In his unwavering maxim that "we leave the earth to our children," Jean-Pierre Fleury was the very first winegrower in Champagne to adapt strict biodynamic principles and techniques in his steeply-sloping, calcareous vineyards near the northern village of Courteron. His exquisite Blanc de Noirs is an homage to the perfectability of Pinot Noir under his meticulous stewardship, and certainly one of the finest, long-lasting champagnes we carry at any price. Hand-crafted from select vintages, the Carte Rouge is emblematic, dry and complex, with a well-developed gamut of flavors from brioche and beeswax to cherry and acacia. Hard to say what 'not' to drink this with, but I guarantee you will be reaching for another glass after tasting this redolent, rewarding sparkler.

Notes

This is a real-deal Champagne from Courteron, a village in the Aube department of Champagne, closer to Chablis than the city of Reims! Their methods are as Burgundian as their location. They practice biodynamic farming, which is the strictest form of organic viticulture. The assemblage of several Pinot Noir vines from different years results in a very expressive and intense Champagne. Fruity and delicate, this elegant and long-lasting Champagne is classic, smooth and quite rich in style. Mr. Fleury's obsession with quality shows through in the wine; it is the most exciting all-Pinot Noir blanc de noirs in our stock. The dosage is very low--one of the driest Champagnes we have--with a wonderful black-cherry-fruit quality that reminds us that it is all Pinot! It is long and refreshing and very well balanced.
