Burghound
Reviewed October 2008 Very little bricking, indeed almost none. A really beguiling nose that remains quite fresh offers up a mix of mostly secondary fruit though there is a nugget of primary fruit that remains on the layered, airy, earthy and spicy nose. The equally earthy and minerally medium-bodied flavors are rich, full, deep and wonderfully detailed on the naturally sweet and velvety finish. I particularly like the solid mid-palate fat that largely if not completely buffers the ever-so-slightly dry but gorgeously long finish. This is a notably youthful '85 that should continue to drink well for years to come if properly stored.

Take it home. Or give it a cellar.

Wine Spectator
Firm, focused and concentrated, showing jammy blackberry and raspberry fruit, packed into a relatively lean frame, absolutely clean, very ripe and long, with just the right touch of tannin. Not typically Burgundian, but absolutely delicious.

Wine Advocate
As Serena Sutcliffe says in her excellent Pocket Guide to the Wines of Burgundy, this wine 'is for those who say that present burgundy is too light.' The 1985 has a dense, rich, ruby/purple color, a big, oaky, plummy, intense bouquet, significant flavor interest, and considerable body. (RP)
