Emidio Pepe’s Montepulciano d’Abruzzo follows the family’s longstanding use of hand destemming, spontaneous fermentation and concrete vessels. The berries are separated from their stems over a mesh, a deliberately manual process that leaves them largely intact. The wines are bottled without filtration and continue their development in the family cellar. In the estate’s account of 2023, abundant spring rain encouraged vigorous vine growth and made canopy management particularly important. The family responded with careful vineyard work and grape selection before the fruit entered the cellar.
