The Peay West Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir is a true panoramic view of the estate’s terroir and the vintage itself. Sourced mainly from Peay’s estate blocks, with just 5% coming from the slightly warmer Richardson Vineyard next door, this is the winery’s biggest-production Pinot - though at 1,500 cases, it’s still far from mass-produced. The 2023 vintage is a wine with energy and depth, which is classic Peay, delivering a nose that balances delicate florals and bright red berries with a whisper of coastal salinity. The palate is full of tart red fruit like cranberries and pomegranate, with some citrusy mid-palate reminiscent of blood oranges and a pinch of spice for good measure. The structure is firm yet graceful, carrying everything through to a long, truly pleasant finish.

Soft and delicate aromas of wild raspberries, cinnamon bark, pine needles, pencil shavings and potpourri. The palate is medium-bodied with finely integrated tannins and nervy acidity. Such great depth and structure, capturing the freshness and coolness of the vineyard. Drink or hold.

The 2023 Pinot Noir (West Sonoma Coast) is brilliant. Bold, racy and punchy, with terrific energy, the 2023 is a delight. Red/purplish fruit, lavender, rose petal, mint and orange peel are all front and center. Clean mineral notes frame the long, nuanced finish. Most of this fruit is from the Peay estate. This mid-weight Pinot has a lot to offer. (AG)

The 2023 Peay Vineyards Estate Pinot Noir captures the elegance of Burgundy while embracing the purity and energy of the West Sonoma Coast. Aromatically, it opens with a lifted mix of forest floor, lavender, and mint, followed by raspberry, and red plum. There’s a gentle but confident use of oak, adding spice and texture without overwhelming the fruit. The palate is precise and vibrant, with a long, graceful finish driven by fresh acidity and well-integrated tannins. Much of this character is shaped by winemaker Vanessa Wong, a Chinese American vintner whose résumé includes Château Lafite-Rothschild, Domaine Jean Gros in Burgundy, and Peter Michael Winery. Since joining Peay in 2001, she has quietly built a reputation for wines of restraint and site expression—always letting the vineyard speak louder than the winemaking.
