2015 Alexandre Le Brun "Cuvée Fascination" Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne

SKU #1685088

Alexandre Le Brun is the smallest producer that we import, or even carry from Champagne at just 7.5 acres. He only makes wine from half of the grapes he brings in, selling the rest off to negociants--his production is just one thousand cases a year total. This tiny scale allows Alex to do nearly everything himself and this hands-on approach shows through in the finished product. He only uses his own estate fruit for his Champagne, and this wine comes from just two rows in the grand cru of Chouilly, in a plot called La Derriere du Mont Aigu. This is electric, single vineyard blanc de blancs! -Gary Westby, K&L

Alex Le Brun has been a gem in our directly imported champagne portfolio for many years, and this is one of my favorite "Fascinations" yet, from a critically praised vintage, no less. It has such a pretty, effusive bouquet of Meyer lemon, granny smith apples, dried apricots, toasted sourdough and chalky minerals. The rich fruit is honed and balanced on the palate with a nice acid line and creamy mousse from the long lees aging. The finish stays on the palate for at least a minute. The perfect champagne to keep around for a nice occasion or special company.

I fell in love with this Champagne from the first vintage I tasted and I'm always excited to see new vintages to come in. It's so expressive and delicious, this vintage is rich with lemon cream, fresh brioche and toasted hazelnuts with bright acidity to keep everything in balance. Finish is long and touch savory. This Champagne is layered and textural, so let it open up in your glass and it will be revealing many components as it changes in your glass. A masterpiece of Champagne!

Alex Le Brun's Fascination is always a singular blanc de blancs, and this 2015 is no exception. The nose carries intoxicating aromas of pear, passionfruit and ripe citrus. On the palate, it has a mouthwatering acidity, and rich flavors of tropical fruit and marcona almonds. Between it's refreshing, crisp bite, and its long, chalky finish, this is a champagne that will keep you coming back for more!

This single vineyard wonder is limited to just 3000 bottles, a single press load, and comes from just two long rows of vines in La Derriere de Mont Aigu in the grand cru of Chouilly. The old vines here have made a fabulous 2015, rich with panettone toast and some exotic white fruit. This concentrated, all chardonnay champagne is as refreshing as it is rich, and is one of the best wines I have tasted from this heralded vintage.

Alex (the winemaker) and I have some fun history. And it almost makes me mad how good his wines are! He sells a lot of his fruit, but what he makes himself is spectacular! I wrote down: pancake batter, lemon zest, hazelnuts. An extremely long finish and great acidity! Really a must for any champagne lover!
