Jean-Michel Giboulot’s Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru "Aux Serpentières" is a combination of fresh floral, lush fruit, and healthy soil. This is vibrant and wide, covering all areas in unity. The whole lot shows well together and not one component stands out the most, just good flavors collectively combined. This is a luscious Savigny, not overly polished just juicy, lush, and inviting flavors. Drink this while you are waiting for the others to get to the maturity of drinkability.

The wines of Jean-Michel Giboulot keep getting better with every vintage, and reflect some of the best values in red Burgundy on our shelves. For the past few vintages the 1er Cru "Aux Serpentières" has been my personal favorite, and it stood out to me in 2020 yet again. It has an herbaceous, perfumed nose with a hint of smokiness, and crystal clear flavors of red cherry and cranberry. The nice high acid profile means this wine has a long life ahead of it - assuming you can manage to leave it alone.

Notes

From K&L On The Trail blog: "Jean-Michel Giboulot took over the family business in 1982 and has put together one of the best bang-for-your-buck portfolios in all of Burgundy over the last three-plus decades. His wines from Burgundy's Savigny-lès-Beaune appellation are known as great values, and both the reds and whites are equally strong. Giboulot's wines straddle the line between traditional and modern, with reds that have crunchier fruit and fine tannins, but plenty of ripeness and purity. The whites are done in a feminine style with rounder fruit and a certain elegance that lingers long on the palate. His domaine holdings outside of Savigny are some of the best in the region with eastern exposures that allow for full ripeness and plumpness of flavor."
