2018 Booker "Harvey & Harriet" Paso Robles Red Blend

SKU #1485008 93-95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Outer quote mark The barrel sample of 2018 Harvey and Harriet is made up of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Syrah, 14% Petite Sirah, 10% Cabernet Franc, 10% Malbec and 4% Petit Verdot, aging in 75% new French oak. Deep ruby-black in color, it has a very layered nose with aromas of exotic spices, crème de cassis, blackcurrant bud, tar and tilled black soil with hints of violet, lilac, cardamom and baking spices. The medium to full-bodied palate is silky and has a great interplay of fruit and spice. It has a firm, pleasantly chalky frame and just enough freshness, finishing long with a youthful cloaking of oak spice. (EB) 93-95+ Inner quote mark (2/2020)

94 points Jeb Dunnuck

Outer quote mark Moving to the reds, the entry-level Harvey and Harriet is always made in a richer, softer style compared to the classic My Favorite Neighbor cuvée. The 2018 offers a big, juicy bouquet of crème de cassis and jammy blackberries interwoven with lots of tobacco, cedar pencil, and earthy, foresty aromas and flavors. This ripe yet medium to full-bodied, polished, elegant beauty will drink nicely for at least a decade. Inner quote mark (9/2020)

Last year when Booker announced there was to be a new wine in their Favorite Neighbor line called Harvey & Harriet that would retail under $50 we couldn't wait share it with you folks, our customers! We actually ran a special price on it at $39.95 and it sold out fast. So then imagine our surprise this year when the new 2018 vintage of Harvey & Harriet was released, with huge scores just like it's predecessor, but at a lower price again! What!? A highly rated Cabernet blend, from an iconic producer, from some of the best vineyards in Paso Robles, from the excellent 2018 vintage...and it when down $10!? Well it's true Harvey & Harriet is back and priced to be one of the best sellers of the year. A full-bodied blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot, Syrah and Petite Sirah. This is a rich and powerful wine with opulent ripe fruit like blackcurrant, mulberry; these soft, lush layers of dark fruit are supported by undertones of scorched earth, exotic spicy oak, molten chocolate, cigar box, and and cracked peppercorn. Very approachable as a youngster from Booker immaculate winemaking and ageing in high quality 70% new oak. To echo what Dunnuck wrote about recent releases from Booker's My Favorite Neighbor range, these wines represent incredible value in this genre of wines. They can mix it up with some of the big cult wines of Napa Valley and have little to fear and much to gain! With two 93-95(+) scores and such a modest price point this one is sure to fly.
