Notes
Jean Claude's grandfather, Pierre, is one of the most storied characters in contemporary Burgundy history, having built up one of the most enviable domaines in the region through humble yet persistent hard work. Today Jean Claude runs the domaine much as his grandfather did. These are among the most sought-after Chardonnays in the world in any given vintage. This wine hails from the Enseignères vineyard, a village cru that sits directly below the grand cru Bâtard-Montrachet. Importer's notes: "On the nose, the wine exhibits discreet wood notes, floral and green apple aromas intertwined in a background of citrus and lemon. Great precision, detail and intensity define this wine with rich, opulent middle weight flavors that lead to a persistent finish. Serious and worth considering, it combines the characters of a Puligny-Montrachet with a powerful frame similar to a Grand Cru. Vines were planted in 1972."
