Notes
Only one press load of this all Pinot Noir masterpiece was made: 3,700 bottles. It comes from an under 1 hectare parcel planted like a garden in the middle of the Billecart property in Mareuil. The vines are all old massals that were planted in 1964. This is a profound wine for the ages! 98 points, Yohan Castaign for Decanter: "Sourced from the one-hectare Clos St-Hilaire, a walled vineyard, this 2002 opens with toasty aromas, spices, white fruits and roasted nuts. This voluminous Champagne has a textural richness, some finesse, and the layered expression of Pinot Noir. There's both density and freshness on the palate, and an engaging counterpoint between vinosity and tension. 2002 is the most fascinating vintage after the magnificent 1998." (11/2019)
