Rieger's Midwestern Missouri Dry Gin (750ml)

SKU #1351818 91 points Wine Enthusiast

Outer quote mark Mild juniper and menthol lead the nose. The palate unpacks bright lemon and grapefruit peel, underpinned by mild, marshmallow-like sweetness. It finishes cleanly, with lemon-pepper and a gingery flicker of heat. Mix up gin & tonics. (KN) Inner quote mark (8/2019)

K&L Notes

J. Rieger & Co. was the largest mail-order whiskey house in the United States prior to the onset of federal Prohibition in 1920. They are now proud to be back as Kansas City’s first distillery in nearly a century. Distillery note: "Midwestern Dry Gin is inspired by the traditional London Dry Gins that famously emphasize the spicy and aromatic character of mature Juniper berries. By selecting only the finest botanicals from around the world, the result is a bold, full-flavored gin with layers of aroma and a complexity of flavor that makes it perfect for sipping on the rocks or ideal for classic cocktails. Botanicals: Juniper, Coriander, Angelica Root, Licorice Root, Orange Peel (don’t you hate it when distilleries say that what they make their gin with is a secret? We do, too)."

The story of this gin is amazing- the master distiller of Tanqueray taking on a passion project in the midwest, but the spirit itself is even more so! This runs straight down the middle with firm juniper flavor married to a flawless, creamy texture. The quality is just higher than most in this style, and the price is considerably lower than most gins of this superlative quality. I never thought I would fall in love with a gin from Missouri!
