Alexandre Le Brun "Passion" Brut Champagne

SKU #1178719

Alexandre Le Brun is a young winemaker from Monthelon in the Ardenne (Marne) region of Champagne. He is a ninth generation winemaker whose family established themselves in Champagne in 1750 and built their cellars in 1822. This bottling is simply great! It is a 50/50 blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir that spent an incredible eight years on the lees! It is full, rich and creamy with a lush character. The Chardonnay comes through on the finish with bright green apple fruit and a touch of minerality.

This was my Valentine's Day Champagne - I couldn't resist the Passion! But I'd still choose Alexandre Le Brun, even without the themed name. Honeycomb notes soar from the nose, followed by gorgeous Meyer lemon fruit and a razor sharp finish. This release is elegant and textured, leesy and bright, and - considering it easily out classes Champagnes at twice the price - an incredible value.

Le Brun is like one of these culty type producers. He's one of these guys that treats his vines like his children. Probably reads them a story each night before bed and it shows. His entry-level wines are good, but once you cross the threshold into his upper level, it's a whole different story. Elegance like a Hepburn, depth like Death Valley, everything on this wine is firing on all cylinders. What a fabulous expression and proof positive that Le Brun is one of Champagne's most exciting producers.

Although labeled as non-vintage, this is in fact all 2005, and has been given eight years of ageing time o the lees. This Champagne is composed of half and half Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and tastes much more expensive that it is. If you like creamy, toasty Champagne with depth and richness, this is one of the best that we carry.
