93-95 points Wine Advocate: "This 100% Petite Sirah comes from a tiny, two-acre vineyard planted exclusively to this variety. Very deep purple-black colored, this barrel sample of the 2017 Petite Syrah delivers bold, fragrant notes of baked cherries, raspberry pie and fragrant earth with hints of eucalyptus, wild sage and chocolate box. Medium to full-bodied, firm and refreshing, it has bags of bright fruit and a long, earthy finish. (LPB)" (12/2019) 92-94 points Vinous: "The 2017 Petite Sirah is shaping up to be a jewel of a wine. 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Fruity and earthy in good measure, this memorable wine is effusive in baked cherry and racy acidity, the spice components equally intriguing in cardamom, clove and pepper. Cohesive and supple on the palate, it is a great showcase for the vintage and appellation. (VB)" (12/2020) 91 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Moving to the reds, the 2018 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast was all destemmed and spent 10 months in 28% new French oak. Bright black cherry, mulberry, and passion fruit as well as lots of violet and spice notes emerge from this mediu...

97 points Kerin O'Keefe: "Camphor, forest berry, dark spice and new leather aromas form the enticing nose. Elegantly structured and radiant, the linear, vibrant palate delivers ripe red cherry, pomegranate, ground clove and peppercorn set against a backbone of bright acidity and taut, fine-grained tannins. What a beauty." (11/2022) 97 points Wine Enthusiast: "Like a good Valentine’s Day party, everything is shades of red on the vibrant, sanguine nose, from strawberries and cranberries to savory notes of pennies, brick and crisp leather. 93 points James Halliday: "It's matured in all-French oak and while it's mostly cabernet and merlot there's a small portion of petit verdot in the mix. It's medium weight and fluid with blackcurrant, milk chocolate and gravel notes slipping amiably through. It has shape and texture but integrity of fruit is key here. No mucking about; this is a good cabernet to drink. (CM)" (06/2021) 93 points James Suckling: "The spearmint and fresh-basil notes come through clearly, to buttress the currant and berry character on the palate. Medium to full body. Round,...

90 points James Suckling: "A dense and fruity wine with cooked-apple and lemon flavors. A hint of biscuit. Creamy texture. Subtle finish. " (09/2019) K&L Notes: Baron-Fuenté is a négociant that owns almost 90 acres of vines and purchases another 90 acres "sur pied," meaning that they pick the grapes. This is an important distinction since many négociants buy "sur lattes," meaning in bottle! This delicious Champagne is composed of 10% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay, and 60% Meunier and had been aged three years on the lees. It is fermented at relatively col...

98 points Tim Atkin: "2023 Chilean White Wine of the Year "I hope this won't sound like exaggeration, but I can't remember tasting a better Riesling from the New World in the last decade. Sourced from a single 0.7-hectare parcel in one of Chile's most beautiful vineyards, this is an unwooded marvel that used 20% skin fermentation. Celery and honeysuckle aromas lead you into a concentrated, perfectly balanced palate of lime, green apple and wet stones. The medium-bodied palate already feels complete, offering a balance of grainy tannins, mouthwatering acidity and generous, perfumed fruit. As it spends time in the glass it gains amplitude as it continues to unfold its concentrated flavors, and its juiciness calls you back to take another sip." 94 points Wine Spectator: "***No. 9 in WS Top 100 Wines of 2023*** Precise and elegantly structured, with detai...

With just over two weeks macerating on the skins and 12 months ageing in 40% new French oak, the tannins are pixelated, the acid tension vivid, and the medium to full body is flush with loads of crunchy dark berry fruit. It’s a downright delicious red blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, and Cabernet Franc. (JC)" (05/2023) 93 points James Suckling: "Aromas of blackberries, blueberries, bl...

These all carry over to the palate, where the wine is medium to full-bodied, has a deep, expansive, concentrated mouthfeel, velvety tannins, terrific mid-palate density, and a gorgeous finish. 95 points Vinous: "The 2018 GSM Gabilan Mountains is one the most complete wines I have ever tasted from Big Basin. The blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre works so well here. Poggiarellino is a small property in the north of Montalcino and is not far from Altesino. They started making wine with the 1996 vintage and slowly grew their production. K&L started importing their wine with the 2000 vintage. Their Brunello di Montalcino production is usually about 450 cases to 500 cases and about half of that number for the Rosso di Montalcino. The Brunello is aged in 25hl Slavonian oak barrels and the Rosso di Montalcino is aged in stainless steel tanks.

This is a charming Chardonnay from a small grower in the Mâcon. Lionel Rhedon-Marin is a graduate of the College of Viticulture in the nearby village of Davaye, where Guffens trained. All of their young-vine fruit is sold in bulk to one of the better negociants, who is pleased to have it, since Lionel is such a careful grower. But their old-vine fruit, all over 45 years of age, is kept for the domaine wine, which is charming and elegant. This is a balanced, well-made and wonderfully crisp and mineral-driven Mâcon. The tannins are just-ripe and it’s well balanced with a long finish—there's tension and power here rather than concentration of fruit, and it will take a while to really reveal itself. This will be one of the longer-lasting Liracs of the vintage. Domaine Cherrier was founded in 1930. Since then four generations of the family have run the estate. The domaine has limestone and calcareous clay soils that wonderfully influence the character of the grapes grown there. The Sancerre is consistently delicious, with citrus, chalky minerality and light floral notes. Its dry finish complements seafood and cheese beautifully. K&L French Regional buyer Keith Mabry says: "The Cherrier to me is always one of the biggest crowd-pleasing Sancerres/Sauvignon Blancs from anywhere in the world."

The wines of Aurore Dezat are a regular feature in our wine club offerings, and her vibrant Sancerre is an easy favorite among K&L staff as well. Aurore makes wine on her family estate in Sury-en-Vaux, which was established by her grandfather. Before Aurore took over the estate, most of the fruit was sold off through négociants. One of K&L's very finest buys from France. This is a reserve cuvée, made from Millet's chalkiest limestone soils. There is a long maceration at very low temperatures to extract as much flavor and character as possible. The resulting wine is intensely charged with stone fruit and minerality, and bright citrus notes. The wines of this family domaine have been a staple here at K&L since the 1994 vintage when Franck and Betty Millet drove a long way (to Beaune!) on Easter Sunday to meet Clyde and crew to present the wines. Whisky Advocate: "Although only two years older, this expression of Hakushu — the first to be launched in the U.S. — shows a fleshier side to the distillery’s wares. While it has retained the freshness of the 10 year old, it shows more pineapple and grapefruit on the nose, with a little fragrance of jasmine and osmanthus.
