Hofbräu München was founded in 1589 by Bavarian Duke Wilhelm V to supply beer for the ducal court. Today, the historic Munich brewery remains owned by the Free State of Bavaria. This German hefeweizen continues its brewing legacy in traditional 500ml bottles, a classic format for Bavarian wheat beer.
The German term hefeweizen combines “Hefe” (yeast) and “Weizen” (wheat), naming a beer style closely associated with Bavaria. There Does Not Exist’s “Skyview” is a California wheat ale in that tradition, packaged in a 16-ounce can.
Einstök brews in Akureyri, Iceland, roughly 60 miles south of the Arctic Circle. Its Icelandic White Ale is a Belgian-style wheat ale made with coriander and orange peel, pairing a classic witbier approach with the identity of one of Iceland’s northernmost brewing cities.
Production Notes: This beer is brewed using a traditional Witbier malt bill, and barrel-fermented with our farmhouse yeast blend and the addition of fresh local orange zest and coriander. While we don't pitch our mixed cultures into this beer, it get a slight tartness from the barrel-fermentation and from ambient yeasts in our brewery.
"Our interpretation of a traditional Belgian wheat beer, Allagash White is unique and truly refreshing. Brewed with a generous portion of wheat and our own special blend of spices, this beer is light and slightly cloudy in appearance, with a spicy aroma. Overall, it is a beer that is very drinkable and smooth any time of the year. Pair with a salad with vinaigrette dressing or a fresh goat cheese. Excellent accompaniment to poultry and fish entrees or a dessert such as a spicy apple pie."
Occidental Brewing opened in Portland’s St. Johns neighborhood in 2011 with a focus on German-style beers. Hefeweizen belongs to Germany’s wheat-beer tradition and is brewed with a substantial proportion of wheat malt; Occidental presents its interpretation here in a 16-ounce can.
It is the tangy sweetness of fresh Passionfruit that dominates this otherwise mild brew. Light in body with a crisp taste and refreshing mouthfeel.
Founded in 1589 by Bavarian Duke Wilhelm V, Hofbräu München is one of Munich’s historic breweries. It is also among the six Munich breweries permitted to serve beer at the city’s Oktoberfest, making this 11.2-ounce Oktoberfestbier a direct link to the celebrated annual festival.
