Julien Pilon "Lone" Condrieu
2024 Julien Pilon "Lone" Condrieu
93JG

Julien Pilon’s 2024 Condrieu "Iône" is quite classic in profile this year, coming in at 13.5 percent octane and delivering a refined aromatic constellation of pear, passion fruit, a touch of clementine, coriander seed, a fine base of stony soil tones, musky floral tones and a bit of orange peel in the upper register. On the palate the wine is elegant, focused and full-bodied, with lovely depth of fruit at the core, excellent soil signature and grip, a good spine of acidity and impeccable balance on the long and complex finish. This is very pretty Condrieu.

Domaine Begude "Les Paradis" Viognier Haute Vallee de l'Aude
2025 Domaine Begude "Les Paradis" Viognier Haute Vallee de l'Aude

Domaine Begude is a small, family-owned property located high in the foothills of the Pyrenees in the Limoux region of the Languedoc. Proprietor James Kinglake believes that Viognier has incredible potential in the region. The natural climatic influence of the Pyrenees to the south, the Atlantic to the west and the Mediterranean to the east provides a haven for grape varieties that excel in a cooler climate. The Viognier vineyards are at approximately 240 meters and are planted on a mix of clay-limestone soils. Though they are not going for Condrieu, the goal is to make one of the best Viogniers that the south of France has to offer. Cost to quality, you'll most definitely agree.

The 2024 Viognier is spicy in the glass, as a whiff of wild herbs and sour citrus gives way to crushed green apples. Zesty tension reverberates on the palate as salty mineral tones collide with lime-infused orchard fruits. The finish is clean and crisp, leaving the mouth watering for more as a hint of sour melon tapers off. (EG)
