The 2021 Gewurztraminer Eichberg Grand Cru is from the Niedergrot parcel of this limestone Grand Cru. Rose oil is sonorous and smooth on the nose, making this seem rich, but the palate adds exquisite, gentle, creamy freshness that is like fresh whipping cream blended with orange zest. All of this is lithe, bright, citric, tender and just so flowing. With just 11-12 grams per liter of residual sugar, this strikes a most charming balance. (Dry)(AK)

The 2021 Gewurztraminer Pfersigberg Grand Cru was picked from vines over 30 years old. The nose is all rose oil and peach skin, getting ever more fragrant with time in the glass. It has beautiful fluidity and much orange peel freshness, brightness, real nuance and honeysuckle spice. The acidity makes this so precise and long, packing away the 10 g/L of sweetness.(AK)

The varietal expression is unmistakable and seductively appealing. The inviting bouquet shows mango, lychee, Turkish Delight, rich floral, and subtle spice notes. The succulent palate displays silky texture and finely pitched acidity, making it wonderfully harmonious with a prolonged, delicious finish. This is beautifully proportioned and detailed with a multi-layered mouthfeel, promising to evolve graciously.

Domaine Begude is a small, family-owned property located high in the foothills of the Pyrenees in the Limoux region of the Languedoc. The long, cool growing season lends itself perfectly to the production of crisp and delicate wines, all organically certified by Ecocert. Vigneron James Kinglake has been secretly growing Gewurztraminer on his property for years but it wasn't recognized by the appellation board until recently. Also trying their hand at something fun and playful, they took a small amount of the Gewurztraminer and kept it on the skins for two weeks in stainless steel tank. Orange wine is made by fermenting white grapes with their skins, a method that distinguishes it from conventional white-wine production. Union Sacré’s 2024 “40 Days” applies this skin-contact approach to Gewürztraminer grown in Monterey County, California.

The 2021 Gewurztraminer was picked in Eguisheim and Herrlisheim. Damask rose and lychee notes are immediately aromatic on the nose. The palate has the spice of honeysuckle with floral and ginger overtones, all wrapped up in grapefruit peel-tinged freshness. The texture is smooth and full. There is 11.2 g/L of residual sugar.(AK)

An enticing bouquet of yellow roses, then a very striking balance of succulent yellow fruit and salty minerality make it very easy to enjoy this gewurz. Long finish with some real complexity for an entry-level wine. Drink or hold.

Gundlach Bundschu traces its Sonoma roots to 1858, when Jacob Gundlach founded the winery. Its 2025 Estate Gewürztraminer carries the Sonoma Coast appellation and is made in a dry style—a useful distinction for a grape that also appears in sweeter wines.

A crazy good wine for this vintage, with razor-sharp acidity that’s untypical for the grape, but works extremely well on the rich but very focused palate. More passion fruit and mangosteen than the lychee aroma so widely associated with this grape. Absurdly refreshing finish for gewurz! Drink or hold.

From one of Alto Adige's most celebrated and iconic producers, the 2024 Elena Walch Gewürztraminer is a stunningly aromatic and elegant expression of this classic grape. The nose is incredibly fragrant and expressive, bursting with notes of lychee, rose petal, and candied ginger, accented by a hint of tropical fruit and sweet spice. On the palate, it’s medium-bodied with a rich, almost oily texture that is beautifully balanced by a fresh, vibrant acidity and a distinct, stony minerality. The finish is long, dry, and aromatic. A benchmark for alpine Gewürztraminer with remarkable finesse and purity.

Domaine Albert Boxler is based in Niedermorschwihr, an Alsace village beneath the steep Sommerberg hillside. Albert Boxler began bottling the family’s wines under the estate name in 1946, building on generations of local winegrowing. This 2024 bottling is made from Gewürztraminer, one of Alsace’s traditional noble grape varieties.

It’s hard to imagine how a dry white wine could be more concentrated than this Alsace gewurz. Mind-blowing smokiness and spices, and the wine is focused in a way that is absolutely abnormal for this grape. Pierre Sparr traces its Alsace winegrowing heritage to 1680, when the Sparr family established itself in the region. This 2022 Grande Réserve is made from Gewürztraminer, one of Alsace’s four traditional “noble” grape varieties, and carries the regional Alsace appellation.

Alsace lies in eastern France between the Vosges Mountains and the Rhine and is historically known for labeling wines by grape variety. Charles Baur’s 2022 Fronenberg follows that regional tradition, presenting Gewürztraminer under a named vineyard designation.

Husch has been rooted in Mendocino County’s Anderson Valley since 1971. Its 2024 Late Harvest Gewürztraminer carries that regional connection into a California dessert wine, presented in a convenient 375mL half bottle suited to after-dinner service or pairing with a final course.

Elena Walch was an architect before joining her husband's winemaking family in Tramin, in Italy's Alto Adige. Her 2025 Gewürztraminer pairs the estate's home territory with a grape closely associated with this Alpine winegrowing region, where Italian and German languages and cultural traditions coexist.

More backward than some of the other Gewurztraminers, this is a wine with a peppery, spicy, floral, lychee nut-scented nose, great ripeness and fruit, full body, amazing length, and superb purity without any of the funky Gewurztraminer characteristics that can develop when this degree of ripeness is achieved. From vines that are over 50 years of age, this Hyland Gewürtztraminer is eclectic and delicious. Effusively aromatic as the variety demands, orange blossom, ginger and cardamom leap from the glass with a backing note of lemon oil. There is a balance of viscosity and freshness on the palate. Flavours of honeyed apricot, lemon drop candy, and brilliant Jamaican allspice make pronouncements about the calibre of these wines when they are produced from older vines in the Willamette Valley.
