Capichera "Lianti" Isola dei Nuraghi Carignano
2017 Capichera "Lianti" Isola dei Nuraghi Carignano

Liànti is Capichera’s red Isola dei Nuraghi from Sardinia. The name refers to the east, where the sun rises, and to the direction the vineyards face. This is the estate’s 2017 bottling in the standard 750ml format. Capichera describes Liànti as a blend that includes Carignano, selected from its younger vineyards. The producer’s cuvée profile specifies fermentation in stainless steel and maturation in steel and concrete. The first vintage of Liànti was 2009.

Miguel Merino "Quinta Cruz" Mazuelo Rioja
2022 Miguel Merino "Quinta Cruz" Mazuelo Rioja
96DC
96TA
94RP

Immediately inviting, this Mazuelo offers intense varietal characteristics with wild strawberries and mint aromas that opens to a silky, velvety palate with just the right amount of tannic lift. The texture is wonderfully appealing, with a touch of stony grip. Poised and refined, it is a unique take on a cooler zone of Rioja with this different variety. Grown on a steep, southeast-facing slope in Briones, Rioja Alta: a 1.2ha vineyard planted in 1986 on thin sandy-gravel soils topped by rounded pebbles. Fermented in a small stainless-steel tank, with malolactic fermentation in two 500L French oak barrels and one 1,300L concrete tank, where it remained for 12 months before bottling. (BW)

Agricola Punica "Barrua" Isola dei Nuraghi
2012 Agricola Punica "Barrua" Isola dei Nuraghi

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2012 Agricola Punica "Barrua" Isola dei Nuraghi (94JS, 92VN, 91RP, 90WE, 90WS). James Suckling: "I thought the 2011 was the best ever from this stylish wine producer in Sardinia. But the 2012 is clearly better showing vivid aromas of currants, dried cherry, rosemary, citrus and dried chili. Full body, dense but not heavy center palate, and a long savory, mushroom, mahogany and berry aftertaste. A blend of local varieties with a hint of international ones. " (10/2012)

This wine sees partial carbonic maceration, giving it spicy aromas of cinnamon and Sichuan pepper. Tart red fruit, dried flowers, cranberries, citrus and savory herbs on the palate, with a fresh, light body and a dry finish. A blend of carignan and valdiguie from three historic vineyards. Fun to drink now. (CH)

Garage Wine Company "Bagual Vineyard - Lot 116" Cariñena-Garnacha-Monastrell Valle de Maule
2020 Garage Wine Company "Bagual Vineyard - Lot 116" Cariñena-Garnacha-Monastrell Valle de Maule
94RP
94VN
93DS
93JS

The 2020 Bagual Vineyard Cariñena Garnacha Monastrell comes from plants that have been worked with regenerative farming with grower-partner the Solar family in transition now for three years, and it's the first vineyard in Chile (three in Bagual) to receive Ecological Outcome Verification™ (EOV™) from the Savory Institute. It has 13.8% alcohol with a pH of 3.25 and 6.75 grams of acidity. Despite the moderate alcohol, I found the imprint of rusticity from 2020, the earthiness and the ripeness sensation, but as I often saw in many wines, the palate showed better, so it could be a transitional moment for the nose. The wine is medium-bodied with fine-grained, granite tannins and with purity of flavors and a long finish. (LG)

Longavi "Republica" Carignan Blend Maule Valley
2024 Longavi "Republica" Carignan Blend Maule Valley

Longaví Winery was founded in 2016 by Chilean winemaker Julio Bouchon and South African winemaker David Nieuwoudt, who share a passion for crafting wines that express place with minimal intervention. Based in the Maule Valley, the project focuses on old, dry-farmed vineyards, many planted as bush vines several decades ago, which naturally yield concentrated yet balanced fruit. The founders were particularly drawn to Mediterranean varieties such as Carignan, Grenache, and Monastrell, seeing strong parallels between Maule’s climate and regions in southern Europe. Their philosophy centers on traditional farming and low-intervention winemaking, including native yeast fermentations and limited use of new oak. By prioritizing older vineyards and gentle cellar practices, they aim to highlight both the history and raw character of the region. The 2024 “Republica” is a blend composed of 80% Carignan, 15% Grenache, and 5% Monastrell (Mourvèdre), sourced from old, dry-farmed bush vines in the Maule Valley. It is fermented with native yeasts in cement tanks and then aged in neutral vessels, such as large, well-used barrels, a process designed to preserve the wine’s freshness while allowing the pure character of the fruit to shine.

De Martino "Vigno Old Vines" Carignane Maule Valley
2018 De Martino "Vigno Old Vines" Carignane Maule Valley

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2018 De Martino "Vigno Old Vines" Carignane Maule Valley (98RP). Wine Advocate: "The 2018 Vigno is somewhat more austere and powerful, with more tannin and depth than the 2017 I tasted next to it. It's very complete and has all the ingredients for a long development in bottle. It's a wine with power and balance, but it's a little backward; the 2017 is more expressive and open, more drinkable now. But this will be a long-distance runner and more complete. 6, 828 bottles were filled in October 2019. (LG)" (02/2020)
