Bid on this bottle of 1985 Domaine René Engel Clos Vougeot Grand Cru (96RP). Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the Domaine Engel tasting in London, the 1985 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru was a brilliant mature Burgundy at its peak. It has a fragrant and disarmingly pure bouquet with red plum, orange rind, minerals and rose petal aromas that almost "swarm" towards you. The palate is very well structured with black rather than red fruit infused with subtle marmalade and sour cherry notes. It is blessed with palpable mineralité, the terroir coming through uninhibited. What a fabulous mature Clos Vougeot from the late Philippe Engel, about as good as this medieval grand cru gets. À point. (NM)" (01/2017)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1990 Domaine A&F Gros Clos Vougeot Grand Cru "Le Grand Maupertuis" (93BH). Burghound: "A simply spectacular and fully mature nose of earth, spice, leather, truffle and a lovely iron/stone note is followed by big, robust, intense and velvety full-bodied flavors that offer stunning depth and richness before culminating in a still firm finish that delivers outstanding length. This is impressive as hell and while not an elegant or especially sophisticated wine, it is approachable now and one that will live for many years to come, indeed it has not yet quite reached its full potential, at least not for my taste. As such, I would be inclined to let it continue to age for another 3 to 5 years or so though if you do decide to open a bottle now, be sure to give it 30 minutes in a decanter first. Tasted three times with consistent notes." (02/2010)

Bid on this 2-bottle tasting lot; including 1-bottle of 2018 Domaine Louis Jadot Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru (96WE, (93-95VN), 94JS, 94WS, (90-93BH), 93RP) and 1-bottle of 2019 Louis Jadot Pommard 1er Cru "Les Épenots". Of the 2018 Domaine Louis Jadot Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, Wine Enthusiast writes: "Notes of ripe, red cherry on the nose of this wine are displayed with fresh-faced purity. The palate adds supple richness, offering dense, supple tannin that serves as a concentrated backdrop for the lovely fruit. Freshness pervades everything and highlights the slight, delicious crunch of the youthful tannins. This all comes together in unforced, juicy harmony. (AK)" (12/2020)

Bid on this bottle of 1988 Domaine Méo-Camuzet Clos Vougeot Grand Cru (93JG, 92WS, 91BH). John Gilman: "In our vertical of the Méo Clos de Vougeot, the 1988 really stood out for its suave balance and refined integration of its remaining tannins and is really one of the prettiest 1988s that I have tasted in the last few years. The bouquet is quite red fruity in this vintage, wafting from the glass in a bright and fully mature blend of strawberries, cherries, nutskin, coffee, a complex base of soil, a discreet touch of vanillin oak and a nice topnote of spices. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and beautifully transparent in personality, with bright, seamless acids, a fine core, impeccable balance and lovely length and grip on the classy finish. This is really a strong 1988 that is drinking beautifully, but has decades and decades of life still ahead of it." (05/2016)

This superb Clos de Vougeot from Méo-Camuzet has ravishing ripe blackberry fruit aromas with hints of rose petals and liquorice. The texture is silky yet firmly tannic, and enlivened by surprisingly fresh acidity. This cuvée is from Méo’s vines near the château in the section called 'La Garenne' in thin soils (60-80 cm) over limestone. In some vintages Méo blended his parcels together; when they were separate, this was bottled as Près du Cellier, but he is not sure what it will be called in 2023.(CC)
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2010 Chateau de la Tour Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru (94BH, 92ST). Burghound: "This is impressively ripe yet superbly fresh with black cherry and floral scents that are trimmed in sauvage hints and a background application of wood. There is excellent mid-palate concentration and richness to the powerful, muscular and energetic large-scaled flavors that possess superb reserves of mouth coating dry extract that serves to impart a seductive mouth feel to the dusty, serious, balanced and strikingly long finish. A genuine knockout." (01/2013)

The vines were planted in 1904. A richer deeper ruby purple. A flamboyant pure fruit on the nose, sort of unexpected for Clos Vougeot. Excellent tension on the palate, all the structure that a Clos Vougeot needs but nothing in excess. Seamless, sensual, yet with all the strictness it should have. Very fine. Drink from 2032-2040.

This is from a fascinating vineyard in the middle of grand cru red country, and it is electric and generous. Aromas of citrus confit, salted nuts, sea spray, honeysuckle, wet stones and flint. The palate is mid-weighted and dense, with no fat whatsoever and so much tension and nerve. An absolutely excellent chardonnay that is delicious now and for many years to come. Drink or hold.

Among the best wines made in the Clos this year, this wine shows pronounced aromas of ripe mulberry and plum with accents of earth and mineral. The substance and volume on the palate are astonishing for the vintage and complement the firm tannins and depth of fruit. Gros had us taste it after the Richebourg, and she was right. It is produced from her 80-year-old vines in Le Grand Maupertui, which yielded a gratifying 35hl/ha this year, more than most other sites. (CC)

Arnoux-Lachaux has been in Vosne-Romanée since 1858, when Charles Arnoux and Renée Salbreux put two village families together. Robert Arnoux took over in 1957, started estate bottling, and spent four decades adding parcels, including the 0.35 hectares of Romanée-Saint-Vivant he bought in 1984. His son-in-law Pascal Lachaux worked beside him from 1987 until Robert’s death in 1995 and ran the domaine with Florence Arnoux afterward, renaming it Arnoux-Lachaux with the 2007 vintage. The reason the wines are talked about the way they are now is Charles Lachaux, the eldest of their three sons, who joined in 2011, made his first wine in 2012 and has run both vineyards and cellar since 2015. He raised the trellising to about 1.7 meters, stopped leaf-pulling and shoot-trimming, converted to certified biodynamics with grass cover and sheep grazing, gave up ploughing in 2020, and moved to whole-cluster fermentation across the range with short, gentle macerations. Since 2022 some of the wine is raised in sandstone amphorae rather than barrels. The 14.5 hectares cover 15 appellations, including Romanée-Saint-Vivant, Échezeaux, Clos de Vougeot and Latricières-Chambertin, with Vosne premier crus Suchots, Chaumes and Reignots and a run of Nuits-Saint-Georges. Charles has said the changes took about three years to show in the glass, and his own word for the result is precision.

Insider's Advantage
5% whole bunch vinification with half aged in new wood. Glowing fresh purple. Quite heady on the nose, ripe fruit. Very solid, more a blood red fruit than anything darker, fills the mouth very well. Long balanced finish, there is plenty here for the long run.
The 2023 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has an intense bouquet with black cherry, raspberry and violet scents that burst from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied, fleshy and very pure, with saturated tannins, impressive depth and plenty of blue fruit on the finish that makes it seem like a Bonnes-Mares. Superb.(NM)
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2021 Domaine Michel Gros Clos Vougeot Grand Cru "Grand Maupertuis". The tasting note reads: "91-93 points Burghound: 'Note: from.20 ha parcel; note that Gros uses the atypical spelling of Maupertuis, e.g., with an 's' A whiff of green tea is present on the mostly red berry fruit aromas that are cut with copious amount of earth and humus. There is excellent underlying tension suffusing the big-bodied and solidly concentrated flavors that flash evident power on the distinctly austere, very firm and solidly persistent finale. A classic Clos de Vougeot.' (01/2023) 89-91 points Vinous: 'The 2021 Clos de Vougeot le Grand Maupertui Grand Cru was showing quite a lot of reduction on the nose that makes it difficult to read. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. The 100% new oak (three barrels) dominates the finish and obscures some of the terroir expression. It's just a bit laboured compared to its peers. (NM)' (01/2023)"
