The appellation 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley is terrific and well worth seeking out. Coming from 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, and tiny amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it reveals a ruby/purple hue as well as a Graves-like nose of darker currants, scorched earth, leafy tobacco, and iron. Ripe, round, and seamless on the palate, with medium-bodied richness, it has beautiful tannins and outstanding length. This beauty is well worth seeking out and can be drunk any time over the coming 15 years.

The Hillfighter, a “second label” from WeatherEye, is mostly Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon, with 24% Syrah and 7% Tempranillo. I loved how its dried blueberry, worn saddle leather and graphite aromas reminded me of a mature Bordeaux. The wine's flavors of black cherry are ably backed by fine-grained tannins. *Editors' Choice*

Sourced from Champoux and Mach One vineyards, this begins to impress with its extremely attractive aromas of ripe dark cherries, currants and plums, which are accompanied by lovely nuances of violets, baking spices, savory herbs, gravel, and damp earth characteristics all taking shape... Displaying wonderful overall balance and concentration along with remarkable purity and craftsmanship, the 2019 has it all. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2021 Kobayashi "Mizunara - WeatherEye Vineyard" Washington State Cabernet Franc (OWC - 97VN) in original wood. Vinous: "... Winemaker Travis Allen sources these rare and unique Mizunara barrels from Japan, and they impart an exoticism that needs to be experienced to be believed. The bouquet alone is like something out of a shop of fine treasures, blending incense with foreign spices, herbal tea leaves, dried roses, blood orange and pepper-tinged wild berry fruits. It’s deeply textural, velvety-smooth and dense upon entry, yet quickly firms up, as depths of black raspberry meld with a tinge of orange zest and tannins that add a crystalline feel. The 2021 finishes dramatically long and potent, with a residual bump of zesty acidity to balance. An array of inner florals fade over a lingering hint of boysenberry... Stunning juice. The 2020 Hors Catégorie Syrah is otherworldly and is one of the few 100-point wines that I have scored. Layered complexity gives you hit after hit on the nose - starting with floral notes of lilac and orange blossom, then it gifts meaty notes of smoked brisket and bacon fat, then it presents blackberry and blue plum skin flavors, and finally, it finishes with deep umami, mushroom, iodine, and dusty earth aspects. The 2024 Viognier Art Den Hoed is savory and perfumed, with nuances of fresh ginger and sour melon creating its pure bouquet. The 2021 The Mountain Tower Vineyard Series checks in as 52% Cabernet Franc, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 18% Merlot aged 20 months in 40% new French oak. Darker, iron-laced blue fruits, crushed stone, sage, and lavender notes all emerge from this rocking 2021, another brilliant wine in the lineup that has medium to full-bodied richness, stunning purity of fruit, and building tannins that need bottle age. I wouldn't think about opening bottles for at least another 3-4 years, and it should cruise in cold cellars over the following two decades.

You immediately have the sense of place in this wine and in a blind, I could pick it out every time. Gorgeous, intriguing notes of grilled meats, dried purple roses, and white peppercorns meld with the blue and black fruit with a smidgeon of white grapefruit zest that pops out of the glass on the nose. Wine Advocate: "More elegant and classically styled than the more plush, hedonistically-driven L'Orage cuvee, the sensational 2014 Block 1 is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon that was brought up all in new French oak. It's an extraordinary Cabernet from Washington that will easily stand up to the first growths of Bordeaux in a blind tasting. Tobacco leaf, blackcurrants, toasted bread, lead pencil and spice are just some of the nuances here, and it's full-bodied, silky and seamless on the palate, with a fresh, clean, elegant style that just begs to be drunk. More approachable than many of Gramercy’s 2019s, its extra year of bottle gestation has given this wine a supple elegance. It’s mildly smoky, mildly spicy from whole clusters in the fermentation, the flavors of purple plum and mint and olive bearing a quiet hum of energy, held in check by fine, polished tannins. (PJC)
Woodinville’s oldest whiskey to date is the final chapter in the limited series that began with the acclaimed 8 and 9 Year releases. This is not simply an older version of the standard bourbon. Founders Brett Carlile and Orlin Sorensen developed a distinctive 55% corn, 35% rye, and 10% malted barley mash bill specifically for an ambitious barrel experiment conducted with Independent Stave Company. The custom barrels were built from staves seasoned outdoors for 24 months, then heavily toasted and only lightly charred, an unusual treatment designed to maximize sweetness, vanilla, toasted nut, spice, and mature oak character. After a full decade in Woodinville’s barrelhouses in the high desert of Quincy, Washington, the whiskey has developed remarkable depth while retaining the lively rye spice at the heart of the recipe. Bottled at a perfectly judged 100 proof, it offers layers of warm vanilla, toasted almond, freshly baked bread, caramel, buttery toffee, clove, dried fruit, polished leather, and gentle campfire smoke. The finish is long and beautifully composed, balancing warm baking spice and soft oak tannin against lingering vanilla sweetness. Already awarded Double Platinum at the ASCOT Awards and Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, this is a fitting culmination of more than a decade of experimentation and patience.

The famous McCrea Cuvee Orleans came from this vineyard, and the 2022 Syrah Motor City Kitty continues the site’s reputation for greatness, offering a ripe style and lots of wood, but showing something very special in its spicy, meaty, herbal complexion, memorable particularly for its sense of purity and balance. Made in a dense, brooding, full-bodied style, it spent time fermenting in concrete tank on its skins for 45 days before settling into 500-liter puncheon for 15 months on the lees. Dark fruit and spicy dried herbs accent the core of the wine, which will benefit from further aging, 10-12 years. (VB)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2016 Cayuse "Bionic Frog" Walla Walla Valley Syrah (100JD, 99JS, 98RP, 96VN, 96WE, 94WS). Jeb Dunnuck: "Pure perfection in a glass, the 2016 Syrah Bionic Frog is another magical wine from this estate and is as good as it gets. Crème de cassis, rose petals, menthol, ash, and smoky, meaty, soy sauce notes all emerge from this singular wine. Full-bodied, expansive, and powerful yet weightless on the palate, it has ultra-fine tannins, a brilliant finish, and a singular, magical character. (JD)" (04/2019)

Cassis, ripe blackcurrants, leafy tobacco, graphite, leather, and spicy wood notes all define the flagship 2021 Sorella from this estate. Based on 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% each of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and the rest Petit Verdot and aged in 30% new barrels, its deep ruby/plum hue (it's not completely opaque) is followed by medium to full-bodied richness, ripe, integrated tannins, and a great finish.
