Elaborate swirls of lime, lemon, passionfruit and white peach entice the nose whilst the pristine purity of acidity and mineral freshness disarms the terroir-driven palate. Salty, linear and tangy, demonstrating Atlantic style at its best. *Platinum Medal - 2025 Decanter World Wine Awards*

Grapefruit, saline, very citrus-driven with a stony austerity. It combines expressive fruit with saline acidity balanced by a touch of texture. From estate-owned vineyards in Condado de Tea. Fermented and aged in tank. A straightforward albariño with a touch of generosity. (JGA)
93+ points. The entry level bottling of Albariño from Eulogio Pomares’ Bodegas Zárate is made from vines that are thirty-five years of age located in the Val do Salnés, with the wine fermented with indigenous yeasts and given extended aging on its fine lees prior to bottling. The 2025 version offers up a deep and vibrant aromatic constellation of lime, tart orange, granitic minerality, a lovely touch of leesiness, lemongrass and a topnote of citrus zest. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied and mineral-driven in personality, with a beautiful core of fruit, laser-like focus, a lovely girdle of acidity and a long, complex and impeccably balanced finish. This is great young Albariño and I cannot wait to taste some of Eulogio’s single vineyard bottlings from this vintage in the not too distant future!
Still ludicrously affordable by the standards of the world's greatest bottles, this stunning Albariño showcases the quality of a 1.7-hectare parcel that dates back to 1790, making it by far the oldest vineyard in Rías Baixas. A wine that makes you want to break into song, this has a hint of granitic reduction, near perfect poise and balance, lime, white pepper and citrus peel flavours and a finish that lasts for over a minute on the palate. What grace! What purity! What intensity!
Founded in August 2012 by famed winemaker Eulogio Pomares of Bodegas Zárate and his wife, Rebeca Montero, Fento is a personal passion project for the couple, meant to highlight the unique terroir of Spain’s western coast. Fento's mission is to produce fresh and expressive wines that reflect the character of the grapes and terroir. Grapes are hand-harvested with selection done directly in the vineyard. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks, and aging decisions are made based on the character of each year’s harvest. This Albariño is a vibrant and elegant example of the varietal—bursting with fresh citrus peel and stone fruit, balanced by a touch of salinity and brisk, chalky acidity.
When I tasted this wine in mid-June, the nose of the 2024 Albariño was still too closed and a little reductive to show its true colors, but it was in the palate where I could see the harmony and balance of the year, a year with purity and elegance, with a perfect balance between alcohol and ripeness and freshness and acidity, with textbook parameters for good development of aromatics and flavors while keeping the spark from the granite soils. It's very Salnés. Some 90,000 bottles will be produced, but some wine is still to be bottled and kept with the fine lees in stainless steel. (LG)
This is very citric with brine and a marine note. It is vertical and nervy with a saline touch, medium-bodied but long and substantial in its context. Driven by a sense of vibrancy. Made with mostly grapes from O Rosal with a touch of grapes from Salnés. Saline as well on the finish. (JGA)
Terras Gauda is based in O Rosal, the southernmost subzone of Rías Baixas, along Galicia’s border with Portugal. Its 2025 Abadía de San Campio is made from Albariño, the principal white grape of this Atlantic-facing appellation in northwestern Spain.
The 2023 Albariño Eidos de Padriñán, sourced from Sanxenxo in Rías Baixas, presents tropical aromas of orange blossom, pineapple and lychee. At 13% alcohol, the indulgent and textured palate is rich and enveloping, delivering a mature and defined profile. (JH)
Discrete and floral nose, with perfumed jasmine, grapefruit, passion fruit and pineapple aromas. Very tasty, with a salty character. *Silver Medal - 2025 Decanter World Wine Awards*
Rodrigo Méndez of Forjas del Salnés, known locally as Rodri, represents the fifth generation of a family with centuries of winemaking heritage. Widely regarded as one of the world’s greatest Albariño producers, he crafts over 15 small-batch bottlings from the micro-terroirs of Val do Salnés, the most coastal subzone of DO Rías Baixas—an appellation founded by his grandfather. His wines are pure reflections of Salnés’ diverse terroirs, achieved through historic techniques and a commitment to organic, low-intervention methods, including native yeast fermentation, extended lees contact without bâtonnage, and minimal sulfur use. As a grower, he deeply respects the region’s ancient vineyards, trained in the traditional Parral (pergola) system, and takes a hands-on approach with extended hang times, manual harvests, and organic farming practices.
Narupa Wines, situated in the heart of the Val do Salnés valley in the Rías Baixas region of Spain, is a small family-run winery founded by four friends - the Pedrosa brothers (Rosa and Fran), Ruth Campelo, and Nacho Jímenez. Caneco is an Albariño aged for 9 months in stainless steel tanks on the lees. This wine captures the essence of the Galician coast with its fresh, saline, floral, and citrusy notes, balanced acidity, and minerality. It reflects the coastal influence of the Val do Salnés valley, offering a taste that is both invigorating and reminiscent of its origin.
94+ points. The 2021 Gran Vino Albariño is the third vintage of this new cuvée from their 12 hectares in eight different plots (Cacheiro, Huerta, Besada, Eira, Ferradiña, Ferradura, Tomadiña and Souto) in the Valle del Salnés plus a further hectare rented from the archbishop. The destemmed grapes were pressed and the must let to settle and then fermented in stainless steel for around 30 days. The wine was kept with the lees in stainless steel for six months and then a further six months without the lees. Fifteen percent of the volume matured in acacia wood barrels. It was kept in bottle for around 20 months before being sold. It has 13.5% alcohol with a pH of 3.25 and seven grams of acidity (tartaric). It's pale and elegant, insinuating, perfumed, floral and subtle. It's lighter but very vibrant, and it's fresh and with volume and very tasty flavors. This could be the finest vintage to date—elegant, clean, classical and Atlantic. 105,274 numbered bottles and 1,827 magnums produced. It was bottled in July 2022. The wine is released almost two years after the harvest. (LG)
Aromas of white fruit with a subtle briny touch. Generous and fruity, with a subtle saline twist in the middle. Chalky texture, with a barely medium body and a crisp, tangy finish. (ZS)
Etiqueta Ambar uses grapes from vineyards that are over 40 years' old, mostly in Cambados and Meaño in the Salnés Valley on sand and granite soils. Almost Riesling like in terms of structure and acidity – Diego Ríos worked in the Mosel Valley – this is stony and intense, with layers of lime cordial, green apple and lemon zest and impressive extract.
Isabel Salgado uses grapes from eight different parcels on the painterly Fillaboa estate to produce this very well-balanced Albariño. Showing some subtle reduction on the nose, it has the concentration of its low yields, oyster shell, greengage and fresh lemon flavours and a vibrant, energetic finish. Long and well balanced.
