Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2001 Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (91WS, 90RP). Wine Spectator: "Aging very nicely, this is smooth, supple and complex, in great drinking space. Ripe currant, wild berry, mocha, dill, cedar and tobacco are full-bodied, gaining on the finish. (JL)" (10/2011)

Bid on this 2-bottle tasting lot; including 1-bottle of 2001 Gaja "Costa Russi" Nebbiolo Langhe (95ST, 95WE, 95WS, 94RP) and 1-bottle of 2001 Gaja "Sperss" Nebbiolo Langhe (95JD, 95RP, 95VN, 93WS). Of the 2001 Gaja "Costa Russi" Nebbiolo Langhe, Wine Enthusiast writes: "Darker, richer and earthier than Gaja’s Barbaresco, picking up notes of coffee, vanilla and toast as well. Yet on the palate there’s wonderfully bright cherry-raspberry fruit and masses of lush, velvety tannins that will give this wine plenty of life in the cellar. " (07/2005)

Bid on this magnum of 2001 Shafer "Hillside Select" Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) (100RP, 98WE, 96WS, 95CG, 95VN, 94W&S). Wine Advocate: "The 2001 Shafer Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select is the first of these back-to-back perfect wines from Shafer that, at age 13, is still a baby, but, wow, what an amazing wine. A fabulous growing season produced a wine with inky/purple black color, stunning crème de cassis notes, with additional hints of lead pencil shavings, spring flowers, cedar wood and forest floor. It is full-bodied, sensationally concentrated, with a seamless integration of acidity, tannin, wood and alcohol. This is a great, monumental Napa Cabernet Sauvignon that is still an infant, at age 13, going on 14. (RP)" (12/2014)

I had the chance to taste a bottle of the 2001 Viña Tondonia Reserva 10 years after it was released, and the wine has evolved beautifully and quite slowly—at least that is the case for these bottles that have been kept in the winery for all these years. It's austere and elegant, with balance and concentration, polished tannins and a chalky texture, long tasty and dry. This is lively and should continue developing in bottle for quite some time... Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2001 Suduiraut, Sauternes (98CK, 98RP, 98WS, 95DC, 95VN, 93W&S). Wine Advocate: "A prodigious effort, possibly the finest Suduiraut since 1959, the medium gold-colored 2001 offers notes of creme brulee, caramelized citrus, Grand Marnier, honeysuckle, and other exotic fruits as well as a pleasant touch of oak. With terrific acidity, a voluptuous/unctuous palate, and sweet, powerful flavors buttressed by crisp acidity, it is a phenomenal Sauternes. (RP)" (06/2004)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2001 Domaine du Pegau "Cuvée Réservée" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (96RP, 95VN, 92WS). Wine Advocate: "Also brilliant, the 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Reserve is full-bodied and concentrated, with classic Pegau wildness, beef blood, saddle leather and garrigue all emerging from the glass. Slightly lighter in color and weight when compared to the 2003, it’s showing some maturity and can be consumed anytime, but will without a doubt continue to evolve gracefully. (JD)" (08/2014)

Bid on this magnum of 2001 Spottswoode "Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) (100WS, 98RP, 94DC, 94VN, 94WE). Wine Spectator: "The 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is liquid gold and as magnificent a Napa Valley Cabernet as I could imagine. Incredibly complex notes of crème de cassis, tobacco leaf, sandalwood, and dried flowers all emerge from the glass, and this full-bodied, flawlessly balanced beauty has perfectly integrated tannins and a finish that keeps you coming back to the class. As with all the wines here, it has a classic elegance paired with beautiful richness. " (05/2021)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2001 Penfolds "Grange" Shiraz South Australia (98RP, 96JH, 96W&S, 94VN). Wine Advocate: "It is always a treat to taste Australia’s most famous wine, Penfolds’ Grange cuvee (the word Hermitage has been dropped because of legal issues). The 2001 Grange is one of the few vintages of this cuvee to be composed of 100% Shiraz (the others being 1951, 1952, 1963, 1999, and 2000). Aged 17 months in 100% American oak, and tipping the scales at 14.5% alcohol, the 2001 is undeniably one of the top examples of this wine. At this stage, it appears to eclipse the 1998 and 1996. Inky/blue/purple to the rim, with a stunning perfume of blueberries, blackberries, chocolate, graphite, and earth, it boasts good acidity, huge tannins, magnificent concentration, and a multilayered, textured mouthfeel. To call Kirwan a rising star is no longer true, since this property, owned by the Schyler family, and with Michel Rolland as consultant, is now firmly back in its right quality place among classed growths. It is modern in style, as is expected, but the dark, black currant, extracted fruits, new wood and structure don't detract from its elegance. *Editors' Choice* (RV)
Bid on this bottle of 2001 E. Guigal "La Turque" Côte-Rôtie ((95-97RP), 96WS, 94DC, 94VN). Wine Advocate: "Meaty and rich, with notes of Asian spices, espresso roast, creosote, blackberries, and cherries, the 2001 Cote Rotie La Turque is an earthy, powerful, tannic effort with a long, heady, rich finish, and crisper acids than the 2000. Give it 5-8 years of cellaring, and consume it over the following 20-25 years. (RP)" (12/2004)

Bid on this bottle of 2001 E. Guigal "La Mouline" Côte-Rôtie (97DC, 96ST, 95RP, 95VN, 95WS). Decanter: "The nose is discreet but captivating on opening; it certainly speaks of Syrah and could only be Côte-Rôtie - it has that unmistakable finesse. Decidedly spicy, with layers of nutmeg and oak spice over tobacco and raspberry - really quite young still in fact. Only light-bodied, it’s still very smooth, well balanced and harmonious, with good, almost salty, citric acidity. It's dry but not dried out on the palate, and there's still a succulent core to the tannins. It’s drinking well and is arguably at its peak, but will continue on this plateau for some time. A deluxe Côte-Rôtie, which speaks of its place and the house which made it. (MW)" (02/2022)

Forceful, deeply concentrated nose features remarkably pure aromas of cherry liqueur, fresh blackcurrant, pipe tobacco, truffle, espresso, violet pastille, rose and exotic oak spices. A wine of incredible depth and sweetness, with almost painfully intense dark berry and plum flavors that expand and gain richness as the wine opens in the glass. Sappy and wonderfully long; shows a dense tannic structure but there's so much fruity and spicy intensity that the wine seems downright lush. Exotic Asian spices linger endlessly in the mouth, along with a sweet flavor of creme de mure. (JR)" (01/2006)

Bid on this bottle of 2001 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape (96JD, 96JS, 96RP, (92-95VN)). Wine Advocate: "Beaucastel has been on a terrific qualitative roll over the last four vintages, and the 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape (which Francois Perrin feels is similar to the 1990, although I don’t see that as of yet) is a 15, 000-case blend of 30% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre, 10% Syrah, 10% Counoise, and the balance split among the other permitted varietals of the appellation. This inky/ruby/purple-colored cuvee offers a classic Beaucastel bouquet of new saddle leather, cigar smoke, roasted herbs, black truffles, underbrush, and blackberry as well as cherry fruit. It is a superb, earthy expression of this Mourvedre-dominated cuvee. (RP)" (02/2004)

The palate is medium-bodied with good grip, a little dry on the entry, quite foursquare but so well balanced and displaying such clarity on the finish, with hints of cedar and truffle lingering on the aftertaste. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2001 Biondi Santi (Tenuta Greppo) Brunello di Montalcino Riserva (95VN). Vinous: "The totally classic and remarkably youthful 2001 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva shows a dark garnet color in the glass with veins of amber and orange throughout. The bouquet is textbook high-elevation Montalcino purity, understated and refined, showing a dusting of autumnal spices and dried black cherries, evolving further with notes of flowery undergrowth and mineral tones. It’s silky and feminine in feel, “ethereal” comes to mind. A gorgeous display of red wild berries, savory herbs and spices coast across a core of bright acidity. There’s a structure here that remains unseen until the finale, as a coating of fine-grained tannin settles in under an air of sweet tobacco and roses that seem to go on and on and on. The 2001 Riserva is still making its slow progression toward its optimal drinking window, which I expect is still five to ten years away... (EG)" (03/2021)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2001 Parusso "Bussia" Barolo (96VN, 93RP, 91WS). Vinous: "Taken out of professional storage and purchased directly from the winery, the 2001 Barolo Bussia comes across as impossibly young and vibrant, wafting up with a dazzling display of crushed black cherries, cloves, cedar, potpourri and sweet tobacco. It caresses the palate with silky textures, as tension builds through its core of mineral-tinged red fruits and inner spice, all while grippy tannins firm up toward the close. This is potent yet balanced, resonating on mentholated herbs and woodland berries, with hints of inner earth and leather that linger incredibly long. The 2001 may not be immortal, but there is no sign of decline in sight; and while still structured, it has a combination of concentration and freshness that promises a long and steady evolution. A translucent red, it reveals terrific detail and purity in its tobacco, ripe red cherries, tar, smoke and spices. Making fine use of rich oak spice, it is charged by wholly compelling fruit from front to back and, if very ripe, stays true to type throughout. Weight on the palate, it finds plenty of structure from its well-integrated tannins, and, if it is sufficiently fruity to be enjoyable now, it strikes us as a wine that will grow spectacularly for years to come. *Three Stars*" (12/2004)

Intensely flavored yet delicate, this Brunello offers outstanding length, precision and balance. While it is hard to resist today, it will be even better in a few years. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2001 Luciano Sandrone "Le Vigne" Barolo (96RP, 96WE, 92WS). Wine Advocate: "Luciano Sandrone’s 2001 Barolo Le Vigne is fresh, vibrant and totally impeccable. Flowers, mint, minerals and juicy red berries are some of the many nuances that come to life in the 2001 Le Vigne. The wine gains volume and shape with time in the glass. Seemingly endless layers of fruit flesh out on the mid-palate and finish. Hints of leather, spices, licorice and flowers add further complexity on the close. This is a fabulous showing from Luciano Sandrone. Although Sandrone’s Cannubi Boschis gets most of the attention, the reality is that in many vintages Le Vigne is very much its equal. The ability to blend fruit from several parcels, an approach rarely used today, has plenty of merits. (AG)" (04/2012)

Of the 2001 Bond "St. Eden" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend, Wine Advocate writes: "Utterly perfect, another wine that seems to have taken on a first-growth Pauillac-like character (think Mouton-Rothschild) is the 2001 St. Eden. With a remarkably perfumed nose of crushed rocks, subtle barbecue smoke, and again, cedar wood intermixed with creme de cassis and blackberry, this wine displays a phenomenally concentrated mouthfeel, full-bodied opulence, voluptuous texture, and of this trio, is certainly the closest to its apogee of full maturity. Bid on this 3-bottle tasting lot; including 2-bottles of 2001 Dönnhoff Norheimer Dellchen Riesling Auslese Nahe (95RP, 94WS) and 1-bottle of 2001 Dönnhoff Schlossböckelheimer Kupfergrube Riesling Spätlese (95RP). Of the 2001 Dönnhoff Norheimer Dellchen Riesling Auslese Nahe, Wine Advocate writes: "The 2001 Riesling Auslese Norheimer Dellchen exhibits aromas reminiscent of spicy onions and minerals. Candied red berries (always a sign of superb ripeness when found in a Riesling), stones, and chamomile can be discerned in this medium to full-bodied offering's lush, intricate character. This muscular, velvety-textured wine regales the palate with persistent waves of fruit whose flavors linger in its exceptional finish. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2025. (RP)" (11/2002)
