Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1982 Renato Ratti "Marcenasco" Barolo (90WS). Wine Spectator: "A fairly elegant style with lots of tea, tar, truffle and chocolate flavors that are highly extracted. It's got plenty of tannin but it's very well balanced." (06/1987)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1982 Palmer, Margaux (97DC, 97JA, 93ST). Decanter: "Incredible aromatics, floral and expressive, jumping out the glass and one of the most inviting on the nose in terms of scents with sour cherries, sweet tobacco, cedar and mint. Juicy, alive and vibrant on the palate, this has energy and focus straight away. Lively but well controlled, still offering lots of opulent polish but in a serene, charming way. This has tension and grip as well as bounce and a subtle chew to the tannins. A lingering headiness sustains the finish with moreish accents of salt, graphite and flint - this is seductive and nowhere near tired. Claude and Yves Chardon were in charge for the 1982 vintage. Bid on this bottle of 1982 La Mission Haut-Brion, Graves (100RP, 97JS, 95ST, 94WS). Wine Advocate: "The 1982 admirably demonstrates the magnificence of La Mission as well as the singularity of this amazing terroir... At age 30, it remains a majestic, multidimensional, profound Bordeaux with another 20-30+ years of life ahead of it. It’s no secret that the great vintages of Bordeaux have levels of fruit extract and depth that go beyond other years... One of the handful of perfect wines of the vintage, the La Mission still possesses a remarkably dense ruby/purple color with only a slight garnet and lightening at the edge. The fruit-dominated aromatics reveal lots of cassis, blueberry, scorched earth, black truffle, incense, graphite and high-class, unsmoked cigar tobacco-like notes. Still exhibiting remarkable concentration, enormous body, silky sweet tannin, and no perceptible acidity, the 1982 remains fresh, delineated and super-compelling...." (08/2012)

Bid on this bottle of 1982 Latour à Pomerol, Pomerol (95RP, 94JG, 93ST, 90DC, 90WS). Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the Latour-à-Pomerol vertical in London. The 1982 Latour-à-Pomerol has been a great wine for many years and this might well be the best that I have ever encountered. It has an exceptional bouquet that here is surprisingly youthful. It comes armed with black fruit, bay leaf, cedar and gravel, almost Left Bank in character. Further investigation yields an intriguing marine-like, seaweed scent that expands upon its engaging personality. The palate is medium-bodied with wonderful balance and fine tannin. It has melted a little since my last encounter, softened around the edges and yet there remains that core of intense black fruit and kirsch that will ensure that it continues to age for many years. The Moueix team made several immense wines in 1982 and this is one of them. Tasted December 2015. (NM)" (10/2016)

Bid on this bottle of 1982 Beaulieu Vineyard "Georges de Latour Private Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (92JG, 90RP, 90VN). John Gilman: "The bouquet is deep, complex and classically Georges de Latour in its beautiful blend of red and black cherries, chocolate, a touch of coconutty oak, gentle cigar smoke and Rutherford dust in the upper register. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep and quite suave on the attack, with a fine core of fruit, gentle tannins, excellent focus and lovely length and grip on the pure, plush and refined finish. This is probably the last great classic vintage of the Georges de Latour bottling, and at least in magnum, it is drinking very well indeed and has plenty of life still ahead of it." (03/2009)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1982 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac (95JS, 95VN, 94RP, 94WS, 93DC). Vinous: "I tasted the 1982 Lynch-Bages twice within a month, both at a private dinner in London and at the château, from bottle and double-magnum on separate occasions. Both vindicate an exceptionally fine 1982, perhaps a bit overlooked in a vintage full of stars. Curiously, the bottle in Bordeaux does not fully deliver the mesmerizing freshness and energy compared to the bottle in London: pencil-lead-tinged black fruit intermixed with clove and freshly-rolled tobacco. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, perhaps just a little austere compared to its peers. Yet, indeed, the bottle in London exudes class and composure with a detailed, mineral-driven vintage belying that year's unseasonably warm period. Superb. (NM)" (07/2023)

Bid on this bottle of 1982 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac (100DC, 100JA, 100JD, 100JG, 100RP, 100VN, 98WS). Vinous: "Another dazzling wine, the 1982 Pichon Lalande is utterly profound from the very first taste. In the glass, the 1982 is powerful and explosive, with seemingly endless layers of flavor that continue to unfurl over time. Vivid, intensely aromatic and seamless, the 1982 has enough pedigree and depth to drink well for at least several decades. What a wine! (AG)" (06/2017)

Bid on this bottle of 1982 DRC Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Montrachet Grand Cru (96RP, 95VN, 94BH, 94WS). Wine Advocate: "Most 1982 white Burgundies have long been in decline, thus this was a very strong showing for the extremely unctuous, honeyed, high alcohol 1982 Montrachet from Romanee-Conti. Light golden in color, it still possessed gorgeously thick and succulent layers of buttery, popcorn-like fruit. (RP)" (02/1996)

Bid on this bottle of 1982 Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac (100DC, 98JA, 98RP, 97VN, 96JS). Decanter: "A demure yet confident beauty, the 1982 Lafite is in its prime and will delight anyone privy to an audience. Scents of tobacco, sandalwood and spice box waft with increasing intensity as this sits in the glass, then it floats across the palate leaving a persistent trail of stony minerals: flint and graphite along with preserved cherries are laced with sweet, smoky incense, and radiant acidity gives a perception of weightlessness while shedding light on the wine’s depths. So effortlessly and elegantly framed, and as exquisitely perfect as this is now, there is nothing to suggest it will fade any time soon. (MM)" (05/2023)

Bid on this bottle of 1982 Hanzell Sonoma Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. The Hanzell vineyards were originally planted, with no expense spared, in the 1950s by James D. Zellerbach. The custom-built winery was modeled on the original Martin Ray winery and the aim was to reach the same levels of quality that the best Burgundian wines had set. Along with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, Hanzell grows just a little Cabernet Sauvignon, as the late Countess Barbara de Brye, whose family still owns the estate, preferred the wines of Bordeaux! Winemaker's tasting note: "A pastoral aroma of autumn and straw yields to red fruits, notably strawberry and plum. Minerality, leather, and cold steel create austere power while a butter and brown sugar warmth provides a softening influence. Marked acidity draws out the richness and defines the vintage." (2008)

Wine Advocate: "The 1982 Mouton Rothschild is drinking brilliantly today, soaring from the glass with aromas of cassis, dark berry fruit, charcoal, pencil shavings, espresso roast and loamy soil. Full-bodied, ample and enveloping, it's a layered, sumptuous wine that's remarkably seamless and complete, with impressive concentration, ripe but lively acids and fine, melting tannins. Long and resonant, this is a great wine that can keep company with the likes of Mouton's 1961, 1959 and 1955. (WK)" (12/2022)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1982 Beychevelle, St-Julien (95DC, 94RP, 93JG). Decanter: "An expressive nose - heady and evocative still - a marker of the ripe, plush and powerful 82s when they were born. Floral and fragrant with red and black fruit, some baked cherries and soft caramel notes alongside leather and cigar box. Determined and sinewy on the palate, tannins are sharp, full and focussed. A lovely frame and sense of style, this has bite and tang with licks of wet stone, graphite, slate and pencil lead all combining alongside liquorice. This still has lots of life yet. Stylish and confident, vibrant and energetic still with excellent weight. Extremely enjoyable, in its prime but by no means tired - lots of life yet. (GH)" (05/2023)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1982 Léoville-Las-Cases, St-Julien (99JD, 98DC, 97RP, 96JA, 95WS). Jeb Dunnuck: "Tasted at the domaine, the 1982 Leoville Las Cases is just about pure perfection, and while certainly mature, it has plenty of life ahead of it. Thrilling notes of blackcurrants, kirsch, tobacco leaf, cedar box, menthol, and exotic spices all emerge from this seamless, powerful yet magically elegant Léoville Las Cases. Opening up in the glass, with a smoky, singular character, it's an incredible wine from this terroir that has an almost Latour-like regal quality." (06/2019)

Bid on this bottle of 1982 Penfolds "Grange" Shiraz South Australia (95JG, 94RP, 92WS). John Gilman: "The 1982 Penfolds Grange Hermitage has always been an impressive bottle... Despite its fairly early appeal (where there was more than enough beautiful fruit that one had no trouble drinking it with great pleasure and just ignoring its fair chassis of tannin), this was always a wine meant to age gracefully and it has done so in no uncertain terms. Today, the bouquet is deep and complex, offering up a moderately jammy blend of cassis, black raspberries, coffee, meaty tones, menthol, dried berries, a touch of leather, new oak and a good base of soil. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and complex, with fine focus and grip, a plush core of fruit and impressive length and grip on the meltingly tannic and well-balanced finish. This is a classic vintage of Grange and has decades of life still ahead of it, but is fully into its apogee. (Drink between 2017-2050)" (01/2019)

Bid on this bottle of 1982 Gaja "Sori Tildin" Barbaresco (95JG, 95VN). Vinous: "The 1982 Barbaresco Sorì Tildìn, on the other hand, was awesome. It revealed superb depth in its core of generous fruit, with superb concentration as well as balance. It was a memorable wine in every way. In the late 1970s and 1980s Gaja often waited to harvest until very late in the growing season in order to achieve the ripeness he was looking for. 1982 was the last vintage made with this method as subsequent vintages brought warmer weather than had previously been the case. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1982 Gruaud-Larose, St-Julien (96RP, 96VN, 94JG, 94WS). Vinous: "The 1982 Gruaud Larose has long been a “winner” in this competitive vintage. Gorgeous scents of sloes, loam, leather and wild heather emerge and become more minty as this wine unfurls in the glass. There is just a patina of Brettanomyces in this 1982, but like a dozen or so previous bottles, I have not found it detracts from overall olfactory pleasure. The palate is just as irresistible as the aromatics. With lovely balance and slightly grainy tannins, this bottle is perhaps slightly more youthful than others. It is very focused with sage and bay leaf mixed with black fruit towards the finish, tobacco and graphite combining wonderfully towards the finish. Superb. (NM)" (11/2023)

Wine Advocate: "One of the three or four very greatest wines of the vintage, the 1982 Latour delivers aromas of dark berry fruit, rich cigar wrapper, loamy soil, walnuts and smoke. Full-bodied, broad and layered, it's deep, seamless and immensely concentrated, its fleshy core framed by sweet, powdery tannins, concluding with a long, expansive finish. A monument to the greatness of Bordeaux, it is one wine that's worthy of all the praise that has been lavished on it over the years. (WK)" (12/2022)

The wonderful and underappreciated Domaine de Jean-Bon from the Sourdois-Lacourt family is a tiny little farm in the very best part of Armagnac. The section of the Gers, often referred to as the Grand Bas-Armagnac, boasts the highest concentration of prolific producers both the aristocratic and expensive type as well as the humbler farmers who produce small amounts of brandy as part of their polyculture exploitation strategy. The beautiful '82 vintage is as well regarded in Armagnac as it was in Bordeaux. While the production goals are different in brandy and wine making, certain vintages are just undeniably excellent from a quality standpoint, and the '82 seems to regularly outperform others. As a contrast to the excellent '83, this vintage is more robust and fruit forward offering dense dried fruit, and wild exotic spices.
Bid on this bottle of 1982 Gaja Barbaresco (95DC, 95JD, 94VN, 93WS). Jeb Dunnuck: "While working on this report, I had lunch with Gaia Gaja while she was visiting Denver, Colorado, and she brought a bottle of 1982 Barbaresco. Showing how beautifully these wines age, this gorgeous Barbaresco was still ruby to the rim and offers a classic, mature bouquet of dried cherries, leafy herbs, tobacco, and spice. Medium-bodied, seamless, and elegant, yet still packed with sweet fruit, it’s glorious Barbaresco drinking at point. It should have no issues keeping for another decade, but there’s no need to delay gratification." (03/2018)

Bid on this bottle of 1982 Bruno Giacosa "Santo Stefano" Barbaresco Riserva (99VN, 96JG). Vinous: "Two 1982s from Bruno Giacosa are an unexpected but very welcome surprise. I have always adored this vintage. Both wines more than live up to my expectations. I am also quite surprised by how translucently beautiful the wines are. The 1982 Barbaresco Santo Stefano Riserva simply has it all. Deep, pliant and explosive, the SSR is also quite bit fresher than the Rionda. Here too, the flavors pack considerable brightness, with plenty of blood orange, cranberry, dark cherry and tobacco notes. Quite simply, this is a great, great bottle of the 1982 SSR. What a way to end the night. (AG)" (05/2016)

Bid on this bottle of 1982 Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan (99DC, 98JS, 98VN, 97JA, 97JG, 96RP, 95WS). Decanter: "Although the colour of the wine is now bricking at the rim, the core still has a deep, tawny/garnet hue. The aromas here are significantly mature, including smoke, truffle, cedar and earth. Yet a lovely ripe plummy fruit lingers attractively on the balanced, elegant finish. Although this is drinking well now, fans of mature wine will likely be thrilled with its continued evolution. Top quality from a top vintage and definitely not in decline. (CC)" (07/2023)

Bid on this bottle of 1982 Bruno Giacosa "Rionda di Serralunga" Barolo Riserva. According to Robert Parker: "Giacosa has always produced some of Italy's greatest Barolos. Made in an enlightened traditional style and meant for long-term cellaring, these can be austere and backward early in life. Yet they are sure bets to develop magnificently, usually peaking at age 15 or 20. It is refreshing that Bruno Giacosa, the quiet and dignified winemaking genius of Neive, is the least promotion-conscious winemaker in Italy. Justifiably, he prefers to let his wines do the talking for him." (04/94)
