Bid on this bottle of 1980 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges "Les Vaucrains" (94JG). John Gilman: "... The bouquet is deep and profound, offering up a glorious mélange of red cherries, plums, cardamom, cloves, woodsmoke, mustard seed, earth and just a whisper of spicy wood. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep and tangy, with lovely focus, no rough edges (it certainly does take a few years with top Nuits St. Georges to get to this point), and a very long, balanced, meltingly-tannic and brilliant finish. The 1980 Vaucrains seems just a bit more complete and velvety than the 1980 Cailles, at least at this stage. It would be fascinating to revisit both these wines again ten years down the road. In any event, the 1980 Vaucrains is just a superb bottle of wine, and given how well it is showing at age twenty-five, it is hard not to think that all top vintages of Chevillon’s “big three” need at least this much time to fully reach their apogees." Bid on this magnum of 1980 Spring Mountain Vineyard Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L). Spring Mountain Vineyard is one of Napa Valley’s landmark mountain estates, assembled from four historic properties established between 1872 and 1884 on the eastern slopes of Spring Mountain above St. Helena. The estate encompasses roughly 845 acres with vineyard plantings spread across a wide range of elevations, exposures, and soils, providing an unusually diverse set of growing conditions. Charles Lemme planted the mountain’s first Cabernet Sauvignon at La Perla, while neighboring pioneers developed some of the area’s earliest wineries and caves. The modern estate gained international recognition when its Chardonnay placed fourth at the 1976 Judgment of Paris.

Bid on this bottle of 1980 DRC Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Romanée-St-Vivant Grand Cru (92BH). Burghound: "Bricked through to the center. A complex, wonderfully fragrant nose of spices, strawberry and a hint of sous bois is followed by rich, soft, round, supple flavors and a satiny mouth coating finish that goes on and on. This is easily the best bottle that I have ever had as several other recent examples have been pretty but clearly declining. By contrast, this was a truly lovely wine of impressive balance, concentration, elegance and length." (04/2005)

Bid on this bottle of 1980 DRC Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Grands Échezeaux Grand Cru (95VN, 93BH). Vinous: "Domaine de la Romanée-Conti’s 1980s stole the show in this next flight. The 1980 Grands-Echézeaux opened with the gorgeous, sensual aromatics that are its hallmark. Sweet and generous in its fruit, it revealed superb length on the palate, with a final note of freshness on the finish. (AG)" (04/2008)

Bid on this bottle of 1980 DRC Domaine de la Romanee-Conti La Tâche Grand Cru (99RP, 94BH, 92JG, 92WS). Wine Advocate: "The 1980 La Tâche Grand Cru is an extraordinary wine at the peak of its powers. Unfurling in the glass with exotic aromas of wilted rose petals, raspberries and cherries mingled with exotic spices, coniferous forest floor, blood orange, smoked tea and game bird, it's full-bodied, velvety and sensual, with a deep, multidimensional core, rich and powdery tannins and lively acids, concluding with a long, perfumed finish. From a bottle that had never left Burgundy, this is a profound wine that I'd single out as the stylistic successor of the stunning 1962. Interestingly, Aubert de Villaine observes that in 1980, all the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti's wines were bottled direct from the barrel, without any racking. (WK)" (02/2021)
