Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1976 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac (96JS, 93JG, 93RP, 92VN). James Suckling: "This is the wine of the vintage. I love the rosewater, currants and citrus character to this now. It's still full body yet so ethereal. It goes on and on in the finish turning creamy and citrusy." (10/2016)

Bid on this bottle of 1976 La Mission Haut-Brion, Graves . The history of La Mission Haut Brion dates back to the 16th century, when it was owned by the Lestonnac family, who were related to the Pontac family, the owners of Chateau Haut Brion. In 1682, the estate was donated to the Congregation of the Mission, a religious order founded by Saint Vincent de Paul. The priests cultivated the vineyards for nearly 130 years, until the French Revolution, when the estate was confiscated by the state. The estate changed hands several times, until it was bought by the Woltner family in 1919, who modernized the winemaking and improved the quality of the wines. In 1983, the estate was sold to Domaine Clarence Dillon, the owners of Chateau Haut Brion, who have continued the tradition of excellence and innovation.

Bid on this bottle of 1976 Heitz Cellar "Martha's Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (96DC, 95JG, 92RP). Decanter: "Heitz produced terrific wines in the drought vintage of 1976, and Martha's Vineyard is, as ever, the queen of the cellar. Aromas of dark cherries, cocoa powder, scorched earth, mint and subtle tobacco leaf are followed by a youthful, intense and beautifully focussed palate impression. (WK)" (06/2016)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1976 Robert Mondavi "Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (91JG). John Gilman: "The ’76 Mondavi Reserve Cabernet was raised in eighty percent new oak and was made from one hundred percent Cabernet Sauvignon in this vintage, as the Cabernet Franc and Merlot did not do as well in this drought vintage... The complex and slightly roasted nose offers up scents of dried cherries, fresh herb tones, saddle leather, woodsmoke, a touch of chipotle pepper and a distinct note of lead pencil in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep and full-bodied, with that telltale elegance of this bottling, lovely vibrancy for a drought year, impressive complexity, melting tannins and very good length and grip on the focused finish. I have had the pleasure to drink this wine on a few occasions in the last couple of years, and while it is a bit leathery from the vintage characteristics, it is a very tasty bottle that has plenty of life ahead of it." Bid on this bottle of 1976 DRC Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Richebourg Grand Cru (92BH). Burghound: "A positively gorgeous nose that is fully mature and offers a wonderful mix of spice, earth, leather, aged fruit, dried rose petal and hints of sandalwood leads to rich, full, sweet and still powerful flavors that possess excellent depth as well as superb length without any of the usual excessively dry '76 style tannins. This is a lovely effort but particularly in the context of a difficult vintage. " (04/2017)

Bid on this bottle of 1976 Lafaurie Peyraguey, Sauternes. Composed primarily of Sémillon with a splashes of Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle sourced from estate vines. Now owned by Lalique Group, Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey was built around a fortified 13th-century keep. This military outpost began its transformation into a winery when vines were planted around 1618. When the winery changed hands in 1742, vineyard plantings expanded to 30 hectares. This vintage lovely is drinking well now and would make a thoughtful gift for a 1976 birthday or anniversary.
