Bid on this bottle of 1970 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac (94VN, 92JA, 90RP). Vinous: "The 1970 Lafite-Rothschild is a vintage I have not encountered for many years, and frankly, I never expected it to perform so well. There's lovely delineation and vitality on the nose with candied orange peel infusing the pretty and pure red fruit, scents of graphite surfacing with time. There is a wonderful sweet core of red fruit on the palate. This is a fine-boned First Growth with panache and verve. More tender than Latour, more complex than Mouton, this might be my First Growth de choix in 1970. (NM)" (09/2023)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1970 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac (94JG). John Gilman: "I used to drink quite a bit of Lynch-Bages back in the decades of the 1980s and 1990s, but I seem to seldom cross paths with the wine these days, as it was not one of the estates I bought for my own cellar (other than the 1982 and 1985 vintages, which I prematurely drank up cases of in their youth). The 1970 vintage here has always been very strong and this most recent bottle was showing beautifully, wafting from the glass in a complex nose of cassis, black cherries, a touch of petroleum jelly, cigar ash, gravelly soil tones and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and nicely broad-shouldered in personality, with a good core of fruit, fine focus and grip, melting tannins and a long, complete and classic finish. Fine juice." (09/2020)

Bid on this bottle of 1970 Robert Mondavi Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (94RP, 91JG). Wine Advocate: "With respect to older vintages, in October I tasted three of Mondavi's more renowned Cabernet Sauvignons. The 1970 Unfiltered Cabernet Sauvignon (rated 94 points) is a gorgeous, luxuriously rich, vibrant, full-bodied California Cabernet that has thrown considerable sediment, but, wow, what flavors and richness it still packs. The color is a dark saturated plum/garnet. The wine reveals explosive black currant, cedar, Asian spice, and fruitcake-like aromas, long, viscous, thick, chewy flavors, and fabulous length. It remains in remarkable condition, with at least another decade of life ahead of it. (RP)" (12/1997)

Bid on this bottle of 1970 Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac (96WS, 95JA, 94VN, 93RP, 93TWI). Wine Spectator: "Deep garnet; fragrant tar and black truffle nose; extremely concentrated; big and mouth-filling, with very dense cassis flavor; enormous, generous fruit; a voluptuous claret." (05/1993)

Bid on this bottle of 1970 Latour, Pauillac (96JG, 94JS, 94VN). John Gilman: "We drank this bottle of 1970 Château Latour next to a bottle of 1970 Château Lafleur-Pétrus and it was fascinating to see just how much further behind in its evolution the Latour was at this time... The wine today is deep, vibrant and shows beautiful sweetness to its bottomless fruit component, with the bouquet wafting from the glass in a still slightly primary blend of sappy cassis and black cherries, cigar smoke, gravelly soil tones, incipient notes of walnut, cigar wrapper and cedary oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and loaded with sappy black fruit, with signature Latour gravelly minerality underneath, superb balance and grip, ripe, fairly modest tannins and a very long, pure and still slightly angular finish. ...but it still deserves a bit more time in the cellar just to allow it to blossom completely! ..."
