Bid on this bottle of 1958 Giacomo Borgogno & Figli Barolo Riserva (90JG). John Gilman: "The 1958 Borgogno Barolo Riserva showed dramatically better than my most recent bottle of the 1964 (which must have been an “off” example, as I had previously quite liked the ‘64), as the wine retains very good balance and structural integrity at age fifty-two. The nose is deep, complex and quite tertiary at this stage in its evolution, as it wafts from the glass in a mélange of dried cherries, orange rind, forest floor, onion skin, gamebirds a lovely base of soil tones and a touch of curry in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and complex, with fine resolution to its structural elements, good depth at the core and fine length and grip on the fully mature finish. There is a certain noble rusticity here that is quite enjoyable. " (10/2010)

I should note that I tasted a bottle of this wine a couple of years ago that seemed to have been topped up at the winery with some younger juice prior to release, and which I did not rate at the time, as it no longer seemed to really be an example of the 1958 vintage.
