Bid on this bottle of 1940 Vaghi Vintage Bas Armagnac in original wood. Vaghi Armagnac is an independent bottler dedicated to preserving the individuality and quiet grandeur of Armagnac. Rather than distilling itself, Vaghi curates exceptional casks from traditional, often family-run producers, releasing them with minimal intervention to preserve their natural character. The focus is on single-cask, vintage-dated Armagnacs, frequently bottled at natural strength and presented with clear, transparent labeling. Shaped by traditional distillation and long maturation in oak, these spirits evolve from vibrant eaux-de-vie into layered, harmonious expressions marked by fruit, spice, and depth rather than weight. Spanning nearly a century of distillation, this library offers a rare perspective on Armagnac through individual vintages—each bottle a singular, unrepeatable record of time, place, and tradition.

Gordon & MacPhail’s “Artistry in Oak” stands as one of the most remarkable whiskies ever bottled, an 85-year-old single malt from the Glenlivet Distillery that defines patience, craft, and vision. Distilled on February 3, 1940 by George Urquhart, the spirit was filled into a single American oak cask (#336) and left to mature for more than eight decades before bottling on February 5, 2025. During that time, the world changed countless times over, yet this whisky quietly evolved into a liquid time capsule. Bottled at 43.7 percent ABV, it offers layers of aged leather, citrus wax, apricot compote, and dried tobacco over a structure that remains astonishingly alive. The finish is endless, filled with herbs, old fruit, and polished oak. Architect Jeanne Gang designed the decanter as a sculptural expression of oak and time, four bronze branches spiraling upward around a suspended glass vessel like a tree embracing amber. Only 124 decanters exist worldwide, each representing the meeting of natural beauty, human artistry, and the slow perfection of oak. Awarded 95 points by Serge Valentine WhiskyFun and quips," to be honest, one almost doesn’t feel like assigning a score to this genuine work of art, but then again, that’s what we do." It stands as a true testament to Gordon & MacPhail’s 130-year legacy of craftsmanship and to George Urquhart’s enduring belief that wood, spirit, and time together can create art.
