Reviewed September 2015The 1986 Pinot Noir Jensen Vineyard is simply magnificent. An expressive, open-knit bouquet melds into layers of a dark red stone fruit in an impeccably layered, voluptuous Pinot. The long, sweet finish is completely irresisitible. Still fresh for a wine of its age, the 1986 will drink well for at least another few years. Delicate and finessed throughout, the 1986 is without question one of the many highlights in this tasting. The pick of the ‘86s, Jensen was showing well and was very quite youthful. Deep red fruit abounds, underlined by leather, truffle oil, and clove. Awesome wine.
Notes
Calera's Jensen vineyard comprises four hillside blocks of vines planted in 1975 on Mt. Harlan, which is east of the Monterey Bay at an elevation of 2,000 feet — where Calera is the only operating winery.
