My birth-year wine! Sadly, on the 1984 Jensen, I detected a little more brett than I could commit too! Others enjoyed it...but not my cup of tea. However, that disappointment was short lived as we tasted the 1984 from Reed and it showed much better. Still quite an earthy, savory wine, but with much better purity and depth on the palate. Seemingly this one has enough in the tank to make it to the 40 year milestone just 2 short years away, so you can bet I’m putting some in my cellar!

Notes

Calera's Reed Vineyard consists of just a little under 4.5 acres that were planted to Pinot Noir in 1975. Formerly forested, these north and northeast facing upper and lower blocks features the deepest and darkest soils with more clay, and thus fruit is slower to ripen. It was named after William (Bill) G. Reed, Sr. one of Calera's original founding partners and close friend to Josh Jenson. Reed Vineyard Pinots are typically exotically perfumed, light in body, with a soft, supple mouthfeel. The cool microclimate makes for wines with naturally fresh acidity and the structure to develop nicely with age.
