Reviewed February 2026Fruity and juicy with aromas of ripe cherries and blood oranges, wild raspberries, camphor and smashed flowers. Medium-bodied, it shows firm, chalky tannins and moderate to refreshing acidity. More elegant than powerful yet a bit austere in the finish. Drink or hold. (AF)

Decanter
One of three MGA bottlings, Asili was the Grasso family’s first. It remains the flagship of the estate. The 2023 expresses itself with gentle strength. The nose is pure red rose to start backed up by raspberry, brushwood and hazelnut. Taut and fine-boned, this flows with cranberry crunchiness as brisk acidity whisks it across the mouth. Smooth, earthy tannins are light but keep everything in place. Bitter orange peel animates the finish. Despite its delicateness, this has appealing stage presence.

Notes
Ca' del Baio's Asili is entirely Nebbiolo from the Asili vineyard in the village of Barbaresco. The family's plots face southwest on bluish clay and limestone marl, with plantings dating from 1957 through 1999. Decanter's assessment of the 2023 emphasizes rose and raspberry aromas, crisp cranberry fruit and brisk acidity. Fine, smooth tannins support the palate, and the finish carries a note of bitter-orange peel.
