Wine Advocate
Reviewed July 2026The Ettore Germano 2022 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba is a dark, rich expression with aromas of black fruit, dried cherry, pencil shavings and dark smoke. The warm vintage brings added structure and volume, qualities that are immediately apparent in the glass. Fermented with 20 to 30 days of skin contact and aged for two years in large oak casks followed by another year in bottle, the wine remains faithful to the muscular character of Serralunga d'Alba. There is a moment of leanness across the mid-palate that reins in the wine's otherwise generous profile. Production is 15,000 bottles. (ML)

Wine Enthusiast
Warmed berries, dried orange wheel and then that soft cloud of dried roses and broom pulling you somewhere else entirely. The 2022 vintage is clearly in charge on the palate, plush and giving, but Serralunga's clay and limestone are always underneath, fine tannins cutting through cleanly without ever getting in the way. Decanter
Immediately expressive and engaging, the 2022 delivers earthy scents of tea and porcini mushroom alongside strawberry and raspberry. A juicy mouthful of lively fruit is ripe but not overly mature, nuanced by a rusty tang and fresh orange. Light but irony tannins encase it, finishing with a frisky bite; great energy and value here. Young vines from Prapò, Cerretta and Lazzarito see a 30-day maceration – shorter than the single-MGA bottlings – with ageing in a combination of tonneaux and larger casks.

A youthful style, showing strawberries, stunning violets, licorice and a touch of embers with minty depth. Medium-bodied with moderate acidity and crunchy tannins that soften, turning velvety. Lean yet precise finish. Drink or hold. (AF)
Notes
Ettore Germano is based in Serralunga d’Alba, one of the eleven communes within the Barolo production zone. The estate’s 2022 “Serralunga” bears the name of its home village and is made from Nebbiolo—the only grape permitted in Piedmont’s Barolo DOCG appellation.
