Reviewed September 2023The 2020 Barbaresco Morassino is laced with hints of dried cherry, cedar, pipe tobacco, mint, orange peel and spice. Already quite open and expressive, the 2020 is a fine choice for drinking now and over the next handful of years. All the elements are so well balanced in this gracious, mid-weight Barbaresco from Cascina Morassino. Pretty floral overtones and bright acids lift the elegant finish. (AG)

Morassino is the namesake Barbaresco from Roberto Bianco’s small family estate. Founded by his father Mauro in 1984, the winery follows three earlier generations who made wine from grapes grown in Ovello. The family farms 4.5 hectares, mostly in Barbaresco, with a smaller holding in Neive. This 2020 is made from Nebbiolo. For the Morassino bottling, the importer identifies vineyards in the commune of Barbaresco, on southeast-facing ground with calcareous marl soils.
