Reviewed October 2020There's a lot of cool-climate spice on the nose of this blend, starting with aromas of bay leaf, thyme, cracked green peppercorns and light cranberry on the nose. The palate is tense and herbal, with black-tea and eucalyptus flavors playing against the taut raspberry fruit. (MK)

The 2017 August Red is a blend of 67% Grenache and 33% Syrah, mostly from the estate. It is also one of the bolder wines in the range, with terrific fruit intensity to match its mid-weight personality. Dark red/purplish berry fruit and sweet floral notes are nicely pushed forward in this enticing, racy Grenache/Syrah blend. The whole clusters are nicely integrated here. (AG)

Made from 67% Grenache and 33% Syrah that saw loads of stems and 11 months in 5% new oak, the 2017 August Red gives up notes of blackberries, ground herbs, spice, and earth. It's another wine from this estate that's a Grenache pretending it's a Pinot Noir. Drink it over the coming 5-7 years.
