Quinta Vale D. Maria became one of the pioneers of modern Douro table wine after Cristiano van Zeller acquired the historic estate in 1996 and began bottling its wines under the property’s name. The quinta lies in the heart of the Cima Corgo above the Rio Torto, where steep old vineyards rooted in porous, nutrient-poor schist produce wines of remarkable concentration and character. The 2011 is a traditional field blend from vines averaging approximately 65 years old, capturing the complexity of the Douro’s mixed plantings and the structure of this dramatic terroir.
