Notes
Capannino is one of Bibbiano’s distinctly identified vineyard expressions, on the southwest-facing side of its estate in Castellina in Chianti. The slope looks toward Monteriggioni and combines blue Pliocene clay with alberese. The 2011 Gran Selezione is entirely Sangiovese Grosso, drawn from the estate’s own selection within this seven-hectare vineyard. The cellar work was equally specific: 26 days of fermentation in concrete, then 24 months divided among concrete, French oak tonneaux and Slavonian oak casks. Six months in bottle followed before release. That combination of site, grape selection and mixed élevage provides a clear way to understand this wine’s place within Bibbiano’s Chianti Classico range.
