Freimeisterkollektiv Volcan Azul 340 Cold Brew Coffee Spirit is an intriguing and spirited tribute to coffee and craft collaboration that sits beautifully within the collective’s ambitious portfolio. Born from the fifth collaboration between Berlin coffee pioneer Ralf Rüller of The Barn and Austrian organic distiller Josef Farthofer, this bottling starts with a microlot Caturra coffee from the West Valley of Costa Rica that is roasted gently to preserve vibrant floral and fruit notes and then extracted cold to capture extraordinary aromatics. The resulting spirit is bottled at about 22 percent ABV and offers an expressive aromatic profile of apricot, brown sugar, and black cardamom, with a palate that marries dried fig, vanilla, and ripe apricot sweetness with gentle coffee character, leading to a finish where gentian root and soft caramel linger with warmth and clarity. It is technically not a liqueur in the legal sense because it contains very little added sugar, yet it delivers all the silky texture and complexity you might seek in a coffee-influenced spirit, striking a rare balance between intensity and ease. True to Freimeisterkollektiv’s ethos of small batch, maker-credited spirits that explore uncharted territory while remaining transparent about origin and craft, Volcan Azul 340 works wonderfully neat over ice, as a base for creative coffee cocktails, or as a contemplative digestif for lovers of coffee and craft distillation alike.
