After the dry 2017, the long, wet winter of 2018 replenished water reserves. A rainy spring was followed by a hot, dry late summer, allowing the grapes to mature fully. This was a bountiful vintage , producing fresh, floral, and immensely enjoyable wines. The tannic structure is slightly lighter, making this vintage a bit easier to drink sooner than others.

The 2018 Proprietà Sperino Lessona is a magnificent, pure expression of Nebbiolo from the highly-regarded, high-altitude terroir of Lessona in Alto Piemonte, released with perfect provenance. The nose is highly complex and captivating, featuring ethereal aromas of sour cherry, cranberry, and dried violet, beautifully interwoven with savory, signature notes of iron, wet stone, and woodsmoke. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and intensely focused, driven by a core of brilliant red fruit framed by fine-grained, persistent tannins and a racy, backbone of acidity. The finish is exceptionally long, linear, and mineral-laden, emphasizing the soil-driven, elegant power of Lessona Nebbiolo. This is a profound, structured red that requires and rewards cellaring.
