Reviewed February 2024Lots of mountain herbs, mussel shells and sour black cherries. Full, fleshy and fresh on the palate with fine, silty tannins and a juicy, rather minerally finish. Long and tight but caressing and pretty transparent and tactile on the palate. (ZS)

Vines with an average age of 45 years supply the grapes for this Malbec from La Consulta, Pampa El Cepillo and Paraje Altamira. The 35% new French oak is deftly handled here, adding notes of mocha and dark chocolate to a palate of classic blackberry, fennel and damson and a grippy finish.

The 2022 Malbec Old Vine hails from La Consulta, Paraje Altamira and Pampa El Cepillo. This purple-hued wine features aromas of tea, violet, blackberry and hints of lavender. It is juicy with a smooth texture, showcasing plush tannins and a degree of compactness. The palate offers a hint of oak and the wine is broad with intense flavors. The 2022 vintage delivers a balanced and concentrated mouthfeel. (JH)

Luca is Laura Catena's passion project to rescue old vines and produce wines that express the history, soul, and genetic diversity of Mendoza's century-old vineyards. Luca purchases fruit from small growers, allowing these families to continue farming for another generation. She replants her vineyards using massale selections from Mendoza's 100-year-old vineyards. In 2023, she was given the first "Old Vine Hero" award by The Old Vine Conference. Luis Reginato works beside Laura as Luca's winemaker and the Vineyard Director for Catena Zapata Family Vineyards.
