Notes
The old Aultmore distillery is still completely under the radar despite efforts by their owners to give the name a wider audience over the last several years. The distillery was founded in 1895 by the owner of Benrinnes in Aberlour. In the following 130 years it's produced on and off without much fanfare or notoriety changing hands a number of times; it was completely rebuilt in 1970. Eventually it was sold back to one of its early owners, John Dewars, and an effort to launch a single malt brand around this special old name was made. The Aultmore is a very classical style Speysider with a tiny compact distillery featuring beautiful, slightly squat stills and traditional wooden washbacks. This lovely, expressive cask from this underappreciate distillery is one of the very few that make it onto the independent-bottling market; it's only the 20th individual Aultmore we've ever sold at K&L, compared to nearly 60 Benrinnes and Craigellachie bottlings. Bottled by Hunter Laing from a refill butt that allows the distillery's gentle, fragrant style to shine. Distilled in July of 2010 to commemorate the launch of the Ardnahoe Single Malt, the whisky is bottled at their preferred 100 drinking proof without chill filtration or coloring of any kind. It's sold exclusively by K&L Wine Merchants in the US.
