Reviewed September 2023Pacalet sources the grapes for this bottling from the portion of Rugiens classified as village-level 'but it's political' according to him. He goes on to note that the parcel was planted in 1905. The grapes from these ancient vines are fermented as whole clusters and punched down twice daily to produce this wine with expressive red and black fruit aromas and hints of earth and wild herbs; there is a touch of tannin from the stems, but this will integrate with time. With a bit of time in the bottle, this should be an interestingly complex wine. (CC)

Burghound
A pretty, airy and more floral-suffused nose features notes of cool red berries, especially cherry, anise and a hint of wet stone character. There is fine density to the more mineral-driven and slightly bigger-bodied flavors that possess both a lovely texture and a bit more underlying tension, all wrapped in a moderately austere, lingering and built-to-age finale. This is also very good for its level and worth considering.

Mainly on the slope, from four parcels behind the village. Tank sample.
Greyish crimson. Neat with the elements well integrated. Rich and sweet on the nose. Very charming! Quite a dose of tannin but the fruit is ripe and convincing. Quite a classic Pommard really… (JR)
